Hi Guys,

I just received an invitation from my best friend for her "big 4" birthday...

downside is...she does a theme-party, and as she was born '72 she decided on the theme of the 70s...

I mentioned straight some ideas but was told "that was in the 50s", "that was in the 60s"...

so has anyone of you an idea as what you'd get dressed for such a theme party???

She mentioned that this was the hippy-time and that massiv glasses were in...but I thought maybe some of you might have some clearer ideas about such years than I do...cause some of you were a tad bit more active...than I was (I wasn't even 2 when the 70's ended...)

Any ideas about that time would be very appreciated...

Gift idea itself is clear for me...as she wants cash (and she belongs to the ones who truly need it) I'll knit flowers or vegetables for her, in which she'll have embedded my financial contribution...that, I suppose, fits to the flower-power time somehow...

For me, the 70's were all about the DISCO! (yeah baby!)
Google ought to give you some good ideas..then, hit your local thrift stores.
I hope you have a fantastic time!

Roller skates (also roller disco) bell bottoms, sasson jeans, spandex, girls wearing ponytails out the side of their head instead of the back, Izod shirts, LEISURE SUITS BABY, gold chains with a spoon.

Bell bottoms (the bigger the bell the better), tinted glasses (not sunglasses), long hair, leisure suits, platform shoes, tie-dye was still vogue in the early 70's

thank you for your responses, yes I'll spend time googling, too, inclusive googling some of your suggestions as right now bell bottoms dont ring a bell with me, neither dingo boots ;o)

Anyhow, am looking forward looking them up, also researching the news in that time...

i didnt know that it was fashion there to have the pony tail on te side, but am happy to use that one

just hope to get off at work...but that should happen.

Anyhow, as we shared an office from 1997-1999 and she'll invite some of her colleagues which I got to know as well during that time, (inclusive her adorable uncle who worked at our department, too, for some months) I'm really looking forward going there
Colleagues like her (and friends since then) are a true blessing in life

Bell bottoms, tie dye, platform shoes. I am ashamed to remember I owned a pair of high platforms in green leather that cost way too much money and were never worn.

My outfits at the time included hip-hugger pants, hang ten and tie dyed t-shirts and , hot pants with a matching wrap around skirt (short-shorts, daisy dukes, as they were called later), floppy leather hats, jumpsuits, peace symbol medallion, and crocheted or beaded purses. Have fun!

I Googled Dingo boots and got several different types. But the ones popular around here were the "harness" type, with a metal ring on each side of the boot near your ankles held in place with leather straps going around the boot and under the sole .And they had a squared off toe.

70s eh?

big hair
big boobs
loud music
hitchhikers
short skirts
loose women
very fast cars
lots of narcotics
loud ass glass pack mufflers
lots of carefree promiscuous sex without fear of aids
pubic hair trimmed into shapes but rarely clean shaven
leather pants, vests, hats & jackets in style, even for vanillas

Not sure how you gonna' get all that on a cake or in a party theme.

Remember these are Americans Phoenix.
70s Germany had footballers with painfully small shorts, Bader Meinhoff, busty women smoking Meerscham pipes, uber metal music, nasty beer in 3 pint glasses and bad cheese.
Try a pipe and tight shorts. That still works these days in the right company.

thanks Axeman, I do know these are american 70s, but a lot of it is applicable over here, too I realised the morning after my first response, what is meant by bell bottoms without looking it up as we associate them with that time, too, we just dont have the word bell in it in our language.

Today at our handover at work we spoke about swimming caps which we had to wear in 70s and 80s when using a swimming pool...so im going to get hold of one of those, too...

And thanks RS...much appreciated but I'm not trying to resemble your ideas...I used to drool over the tapes I had to type for her uncle when we worked together (her uncle helped out in our drug department when they busted a big drug scene in that area) as he is such a cutie...but I dont think it would go down well when I would go down that route of unprotected sex with him as it was ok at that time I think his wife, 3 sons as well as my friends family would have a problem with that
