txironhead -> sensory deprivation/manipulation (6/16/2012 4:18:47 PM)

Well, I thought I'd deleted my profile here until I got a notification of a message. Probably a good thing I didn't, anyway.

So, I thought I'd ask about a project that's been slowly cooking in the back of my dark and depraved mind: sensory deprivation/manipulation.

I don't have the facilities to have an immersion tank currently, so I won't be able to do full deprivation. But that's okay, because I wanted to start small. Sight, sound, maybe smell. Touch would be limited with a bound subject.

What have you tried in this area, and what advice or suggestions do you have? I'm interested in methods, equipment, etc.

I was recently lucky enough to be given a sensory deprivation hood. With the eyes and the ear regions padded and many locking straps it's a thing of excitement to wear. What I would say though is that when my friend locked the hood onto me and then bound my hands and feet things were okay. Problems arose when she began when she made me come. I began to panic in my head after I had come. As most of us will know you begin to breathe a lot harder and deeper when you are close to the edge and have just gone over it. I felt smothered and trapped and like I needed the hood off now.

I have now after about six or eight uses got used to the hood. I can wear it now for around an hour with no freaking or panic. What I will say though, is that all that goes out of the window if I am made to breathe just a mite too hard. Whilst I think I'm developing a way to cope with it and keep my breathing controlled, some sources of stimulation can really cause a problem for me.

That said and warning given I love the hood. I think it's possibky the best piece of bondage equipment that I own. If I'm lying there bound, unable to move, see, hear and talk it's a feeling I didn't know I could have before. The power the person binding you has is immense, so is the trust they are given if you let them do this.

The place I get most of my equipment from and where I think my friend got my hood from is Bondara. http://www.bondara.co.uk/sensory-deprivation-hood

I don't know what people think of Bonadara but personally I love them. I think their equipment is pretty good actually.

One other method thing. My friend also has two new ideas that we've been starting to use. The first was placing earplugs in my ears before the hood goes on. Makes it impossible to hear her voice. In fact what you do hear is the clanking of the padlocks on the hood as you move or as they are placed on the hood. The other thing is music or recorded voice. My friend has suggested trying some of the (and I hate the idea) hypnosis things you can find. so far we've used songs that have a rythym and lyrics that are suggestive to be piped to my through small earphones. I have no desire to try hypnosis tapes but something tells me I don't have much of a choice. I'll post again after I've tried them though.

I never realized back then how many BDSMrs will kill, die or both to get to do some of the things i've gotten to...I just thought it was fun.

Structure firefighting gear. 50lbs of turnouts including air tank and sba (self contained breathing apperatus). noise of trucks overpowers most other noises. Crawl into burning house. Don't know where any of the rooms, furniture or anything are. Dark, smoke filled, no visability. There is somone next to me (I hope their still there). Can I still feel their hand on my ankle through the thick turnouts and rubber boots? Look for the orange glow. Crawl towards it. Dont raise up, don't even kneel. It's hot up there. Watch as the hot combustable gasses at the ceilling ignite. A roll over. The flames roll across the ceilling as if in slow motion. Dont you dare panic and stand up and run or you will die. Hit the fires with the hose stream and get them knocked down.
No wonder people call us crazy.

The closest I came to panicing was in a search and rescue training. We used ancient sba's with the mask blacked out so we can't see anything
and practice finding victims. I lost all air flow to the mask suddenly so I'm trying to get the helmet off then figgure out the worn out straps on an unfamilure hood and get it off. There was no way to tell anyone anything (! cant even breath) or see anything with it blacked out. Afterwards people told me they saw something was wrong but had no idea what but it looked like I had things under control so they left me alone.

My fav, though, are those stretchers for cliff rescues and stuff. They have elastic webbing that imobilizes the victim (that and a backboard). For training someone would end up strapped to it and flipped and turned in more directions than wonkas great glass elevator. I wish one day I could get to dangle in one of those off a ladder truck (just not as a real victim).
Anywho, the usual disclaimers and have fun.

Isolation is an effective sensory deprivation technique. Yes, still have sight, sound and touch. But that is it. Blank walls, no window, perhaps no light. Loneliness, boredom, uncertainty. No sense of time. No contact with outside world. No sensory input except what the person holding you choose to provide. Can be enhanced with restraint, hooding, white noise, sleep dep. A relatively fast technique to break, condition and manipulate.

For confirmation, read reports of correctional facility special handling units like Pelican Bay.

Thanks for the excellent responses. Gave me a lot to ponder.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to experiment, hopefully that will change soon.

I really like the isolation idea, would have worked out really well on one sub I used to converse with.....definitely going in the "to do" list. I've got some designs drawn up for equipment for deprivation, and have been researching float tanks. One thing I've learned to take very seriously is to watch the mental state of the sub in any kind of situation, but especially in deprivation. There was a reason they used it for torture.

Sensory deprivation can be achieved outside of going to these extremes. But of course each of us has our methods of achievement. :)

And this is supposed to be #fun#

Last year in a cave... complete silt out on the way back out, visibility limited to a brown glow if you pressed your torch directly against your mask... swim/crawl out going fairly well until that point. Working a bit to get 3 tanks and all the other shite through a squeeze, suddenly mid-breath a gobfull of cold, muddy yorkshire cave-water... yuckbastardfuck... bloody mouthpiece had ripped off from clunking the regulator into the wall. one alternate is stuck in my armpit, the other one is on the wrong side of my neck to my free arm. Interesting thought process to decide you need to go backwards to get

Bit of an arse clench that one.

littlewonder -> RE: sensory deprivation/manipulation (2/3/2013 6:31:45 PM)

let's see....he's choked me with his hands, held both my nose and mouth closed until I struggled and almost passed out, been hooded, blindfolds are used almost always, he's bound my entire head in wrappings, used a bag over the head, Been bound, gagged, blindfolded and left that way for awhile which for me is the most relaxing thing ever. I know there are other things but can't come to mind at this moment.
