And yet progressives whine about outside influence on the government. Typical progressive hypocrite.

She's Canadian, not a progressive, dear.

To right wing America, that's the same thing.

No. Even if you're on the border, Canadian news does not exist in the U.S.

The world revolves around us.

99% have no idea who Harper is...

Not true. Local cable companies carry Canadian broadcasts and antennas will pick up Canadian signals. Also, you can find Canadian newspapers, like the Toronto Star, in the stores.

I have no idea. Since I live near the border, and most of us a very familiar with Canada, I presume we know more than those living farther away would know... but I'm not about to prejudge every American on it.

Alan Harper is the whiney, cheap skate liberal on 2 1/2 men.

Or did you mean Stephan Harper, the Prime Minister of your country?

If it's Stephen, I just don't give a shit about him, I don't live or vote in Canada... You could learn something from that statement.

Marc--there's your answer.

rob--my country doesn't have a Prime Minister. Try again. Maybe you'll learn something.

So they ask questions and then edit out those who get the right answer. Anyone could do that. The whole show is nothing more than an exercise in bigotry. I bet if you went into Canada and asked people to sign a petition that the U.S. get out of Tibet... you'd get some signatures.

While there are no doubt many Americans who are ignorant of the world outside our borders my own experience has led me to believe that the reverse is true as well and that many non-Americans are equally ignorant about us. My favorite remains the English lady who came into our shop last year. She had been in the United States for over a week already and was amazed (and, I think, a little disappointed) that she had yet to see a single gun battle.

As for subrob, well, I've already said that some Americans are quite ignorant about such things.

Bigotry pisses me off, doubly so when its directed at me, so generalizations like Americans are fat, stupid, ect, really get under my skin.

Then there are the Americans who are ignorant about us.

It was decided over twenty years ago, when women fought for equal rights in the military, that abortions in military hospitals, performed by military doctors were off the table.

If that's true, it should obviously be un-decided.

I couldn't agree more, Peon.

You have no interest in the political landscape of our largest trading partner? Ever wonder why people think you're dumb?

I'm not in commerce, or politics... I have no business in Canada, why should I waste my valuable time learning about Canadian politics?

More importantly, why the fuck do you? Are you going to immigrate, or illegally vote there? Why is Canada's business your business?

Frankly I really don't give a shit who thinks I'm dumb... They support Democrats anyway, which tells me they're not as smart as they would like to believe they are.

One of my favorite teachers was fond of singing the theme song from the old show "It Pays to Be Ignorant."

Somehow this thread brought that to mind.

Well, for starters, they are our largest trading partner, and impact us quite a bit. We also share the world's longest border with them, as well as jointly controlling the Great Lakes, 20% of the world's fresh water. The majority of New York's electricity comes from Canadian hydropower.

I'm a one-person free-lance operation, and even small time do business in Canada, the UK, Italy, and Japan.

It's the 21st century, rob.

That still doesn't explain why I should be interested in Canadian politicians, I don't live in NY, I don't do business in Canada. And in case you skipped geography, Indiana doesn't share a border with Canada... But let me set your mind at ease, if Canadian boaters boat across Lake Huron, and down Lake Michigan to break the law in Indiana, or any of those ne'er do well snowbirds driving through the state, decide to rob a convenience store along the way... I'll do my best to bring them to justice... Until then, I couldn't care less about our neighbors to the north.

As far as trade, Canada accounts for 37% of Indiana's exports, but those are mostly automobiles and parts... I'm not in the automotive business Music, should I study the industry leaders too? How about the Mexican politicians, or the Brazilians, or Chinese trade partners too? Should I make the time to learn everything there is to know about all of Indiana's trade partners? Is Canada importing Law Enforcement Officers? Or American laws and nobody told me?

This insular, xenophobic?, attitude is reminiscent of isolationist attitudes from the 1930's and for those who don't study histpry that didn't turn out so well for us.
