Level...Thank You for taking the post in the spirit in which it was written

[;)] spankmepink, thanks for posting it. Not everyone has the courage to say "something is wrong" when it pertains to such a tough situation. I know for a fact that it doesn't neccessarily make one uncaring or heartless to do so, which I certainly don't think you are.

You are unbelievable.  Like a life insurance policy comes close to making up for the loss of a spouse, or any loved one for that matter.  My sister died last year and my brother in law collected $250,000 in insurance money.  Trust me though, he would give someone 100 times that much so that he could be with his wife and that his daughter could have a mother.

You obviously have never experienced a devastating loss; you are very fortunate.

Ok, I have to ask a question here...

...but let me begin with the caveat that I really don't care about Ann Coulter or her books anymore than I care about any other political pundit and their books...it's all a bunch of bigoted baloney that does nothing but feed fires people didn't know they had until they started listening to slanted news media and reading slanted books, but anyway...

Coulter has done nothing any different than any of the people on the "other" side of the political spectrum.  They spread hate and lies, she spreads hate and lies.

I guess it really just depends whose lies you wanna take as truth, huh?

Good evening feastie [sm=hello.gif]....... yes, there's lots of bs on all sides of the politcal spectrum, but there is also truth to be found. It sure can be hard to do, sometimes [:o] ..... take Rush Limbaugh. I enjoy listening to him, in small doses lol. Some things he says are correct, some are pure self-serving propaganda, or hypocrital hoo-ha. Same with Al Franken, or Michael Moore.

feastie -> RE: Now this is just wrong. (6/7/2006 6:22:38 PM)

Good evening, Level [sm=hello.gif]

I am feeling fed up with the whole shooting match.  I'm tired of watching people debate issues when they're really just pointing fingers.  It really makes me sad to see everyone so very far apart.  It's this very gap, this very thing, that will destroy us.  Not global warming, not terrorism, not illegal aliens.  It's because we've forgotten the meaning of compromise, we've forgotten that someone's opinion is ok, even if we don't agree with it.  We all beat our chests and try to scream louder than the other guy, thinking it will make us somehow more right.  Maybe more people will believe us if we scream the loudest.
All it will really succeed in doing is driving us farther apart.  And what does the rest of the world think, watching us self-destruct?

gooddogbenji -> RE: Now this is just wrong. (6/7/2006 6:26:19 PM)

I say freedom of speech.  And freedom to hate someone for saying it, and freedom to be jealous of the fact that they make 10 times more than I do by saying these things, and freedom to debate this on a BDSM website, and freedom to make a statement about the freedom to make a statement about freedom on a BDSM website.

You have no more right to bash her than she has to bash starving Guatemalan children (figuratively, of course)

Or, she has the same right to say anything she wants as you do.  And I'm sure if she were here she would have some choice words for all of you.

I may not agree with you, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it...  or so.

Yours,

benji

Level -> RE: Now this is just wrong. (6/7/2006 6:29:03 PM)

A lot of common sense there, feastie. While I don't think it will destroy us, it surely doesn't seem to be helping. Where are the leaders? Where are the ones who can see value in other's thoughts, who know strength isn't just opposing the other party, but in finding common ground, and when common ground is hard to find, can debate with civility and wisdom?

There are those like that in American politics, but as you say, it's the loudmouths that get much of the attention.

Evening, benji. Freedom matters more than my feelings, or anyone else's, you betcha. As much as I dislike some of the mewling shitheels on the talking head programs, I would not want to see them silenced.... I'll just change the channel if need be.

And if you Google it, there is a site where she bashes little Guatemalans with a whiffle ball stick.... and one where she's attempting midget tossing (or was that tossing salad???)[sm=hewah.gif]

I believe that Ann Coulter is a moron.  No secret there.  I can't really take her seriously, she's so laughable and/or venomous.

Edited due to spelling.

So is smallpox.  Do you love it, too?

Ann Coulter exists only to further Ann Coulter.  She's an attention whore, and basically vile.  I would dislike her if she were liberal, too.  Her comments about the 9/11 widows are disgusting, but she has you all talking about her -- that's her goal, and in some ways you (and I) are playing along with her.

I've been distressed...from day one with the amounts of "settlements" bestowed upon the  families of the  unfortunate  victims of 9/11.
Who dictates the value of a human life?  Is the loss of life of a 9/11 victim more profound  than that of a young soldier , killed in combat, whoose whole life was ahead of them?  Is  the death of  a middle aged father/mother of 4 who is gunned down in the street due to senseless gang violence (which to me is our own special form of  terrorism)  less important, or worth less than someone who was a passenger on one of those airplanes?
Says who??

My opinion may not be popular,  and i hold  no ill will towards anyone, but i don't believe our tax dollars should have gone above and beyond any survivior benefits that  others receive....ie....SS for those with dependant children  and spousal social security benefits that widows and widowers are granted.

For  the sake of argument....did the government make multi million dollar settlements on the  families of the vitims of the oklahoma city bombings? No.   When  Pearl Harbor was attacked, ( yes i know this is going back a bit) were any civilians who were killed in that action's families given "settlements" by the government?....No.

Just food for thought....

Well, not much thought.  Our society puts a value on all of our lives.  We value lives every day.  We have insurance policies that say how much it costs to "bet" that you won't get hit by a bus tomorrow based on your age, race, gender, health...etc.  We have extensive compensation systems for those injured or killed by accident, disease or error.  Indeed, do you work for a living?  If you do, you are paid your "worth".  "We" decide that a waitress is worth less than a brain surgeon.  I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but it is a fundamental principle in our society, and to complain about it is fairly worthless.  It is purile to write, as you do "oh how can we value a human life..." or "why is his life worth more than hers."

I don't take your post for hatemongering at all, but I do take it as poorly thought out and not very cogent.  What is your beef?  That some people who died didn't get valued as much as others?  That you think the 9/11 victims have had their day?  How's this:  several hundred thousand impoverished Africans died in Rawonda.  Their families got NO compensation.  Should that be our standard?

By the way, the Federal government provided families of survivors of the Murrow building with extensive compensation and support.  If you bothered to do a simple Google search (instead of spouting off) you'd know that.  So what?  does it prove your point?  http://www.ovc.gov/pdftxt/NCJ183949.pdf

Coming across as a little harsh on the lady, E...

Unless they are somehow insured, I don't think anyone should get compensation from the government...  Just because we die in a tragic way doesn't mean the survivors should get paid for it.

I do believe a human life has value, whether it is American, or Rwandan.

So take of that what ya will lol

That isn't to say some of the things she says aren't stupid.  I'm sure a lot of super libs love Micheal Moore and a lot of black people love Rev. Jackson.  That doesn't they don't think their particuler person says something stupid on occasion.

meatcleaver -> RE: Now this is just wrong. (6/8/2006 1:16:01 PM)

General point.

The media love people with strong, outlandish and provocative opinions because it provokes debate, gets people to watch TV, read newspapers and buy books, it's immaterial if the debate is vacuous and adds nothing constructive to public discussion. She is merely doing her job and if she didn't say such things, someone else would. She might also have a point. 9/11 was two wars and many terrorist outrages ago. Tens of thousands of people have died since without even a footnote in the media.

puella -> RE: Now this is just wrong. (6/8/2006 1:26:00 PM)

On a day where this woman has launched yet another publicity campaign for her delusional rampage of patronizing hatred, bigotry and misinformation, Ed Schultz showed us the only logical and viable option to try to quell such a harmful voice….by not giving her a platform from which she can set up her soap box and start inflaming the public with hypnotic fire and brimstone preacher/medicine mannish sermons to peddle her ‘magical elixirs’.

People like Ann Coulter have a few agendas, none of them, in my opinion is to create a better community or to mend a country that is already being torn apart, by its citizens, by the media’s constant cashing in on the ‘Us and Them’ syndrome, and by big business and
special interest groups who are more interested in sucking out their portion of the lifeblood of this country than helping anyone or anything.

Her true agenda is couched in the outrage of a pseudo-patriot, and her performances are deliberately constructed to target the most primal and fundamental of triggers within us. Whether she triggers an agreeing response or an outraged response, is of little concern to her (I greatly suspect she doesn't give a crap about these issues she spends so much hot air on, especially the christian morality ones, considering her own reputation as the whore of Manhattan), so long as she has captured your attention for a long enough span of time to create interest. Interest is so very vital a  commodity to someone whose welfare (as well as career longevity) is based upon celebrity and the cult of personality.

Ann Coulter may be a very detestable human being, but she is not stupid. In fact, she manages to suck in more ‘liberals’ than I'd like to admit. What these people do not understand is, even if you are arguing her points with intelligence and the absolute ‘moral high-ground’, she does not care; that is not her motive in ‘taking them on.’ She needs to peddle her books’ she needs to be talked about on every liberal radio show, she needs to be the ‘controversial’ guest on Bill Maher’s TV program, she needs to be watched on the  mainstream morning media blitzes…. Because the minute she stops being an attraction, her little vitriolic side show will be replaced.

Where do you think she would be if the only place you could hear her is on the occasional Fox circle-jerk? In which direction do you  think her book sales would go if she didn't’t have the entire media giving her free infomercial time? And without a public clamor (either
for or against her), who do you think would be interested in dragging along someone whom people just don’t have the time of day for? There is not much room for has-beens in the cutthroat world of the ‘celebrity’.

Ann Coulter is an entirely replaceable commodity, and she knows it. She works tirelessly to never ever be so dumb as to be dull, even if it means gratingly and tirelessly voicing the most despicable and unfounded lies, slander and shock-statements. In fact, she is quite ‘exquisite’ herself in her mania to be the most unconcerned ‘shockstress’ of her time.

Why we are not smart enough to recognize that… is beyond me.. but if more people did as Ed Shultz did and say.. No, though Ann Coulter vs ‘Big Eddie’ would be a very popular and well listened to radio ‘smack down’, I will not give her use of my respect, the use
of the confidence my listeners place in me not to manipulate their decision to listen to my program by putting on ‘radio ‘cockfights’ to get higher ratings, nor the use of my show and my time to promote herself and propagate her media whoring. (Er… I did rather
paraphrase Ed Shultz there, sorry!)

Thanks to Ed Shultz for taking one small fang out of the bite of Ann Coulter. Disempowering her mic is the best way, and probably the only way, to get this woman to stop.
