There have been some discussions about what the impact would have been, if guns were freely available, and owned by the minorities - particularly Jewish - who were annihilated during the Holocaust.

Gun control was one of the Nazis's pre-Holocaust actions, to take them away from civilians, especially the Jewish population.

Its utter bullshit to suggest armed civillians could have prevented the holocaust. Scaremongering at best, pathetic at worst. I am also surprised you dont seem to have any clue as to how long human rights and democracy have been around.

The reality that people can find themselves outmanned
and outgunned is not something the gun
fetishists can accept.
If you believe your at home arsenal will
protect you from your governments military,
the black helicopters, the UN Army,
zombies and the Lizard People you will
have no problem believing in a fantasist
version of history.

Its "BS" that some object to the fact that the president has terrorists etc for best buds? [8|]

Probably another one of those things that applies only if duh preezy has a D by his name...

the Ayers BS.

Actually it is BS that Obama is friends with Ayers. All that anyone can prove is that they served on the same board,both appointed by a third party, and were in the same room a couple of times.

OMG!! The idiot doesn't get it. The Holocaust would have happened with or without gun control.

A definitive statement of fact about an unknowable.

There have been some discussions about what the impact would have been, if guns were freely available, and owned by the minorities - particularly Jewish - who were annihilated during the Holocaust.

Gun control was one of the Nazis's pre-Holocaust actions, to take them away from civilians, especially the Jewish population.

So the populace was armed when the Nazis took over and they were still able to implement their plans. Kinds of punches a hole in your thesis.

FR:

Here's a quote straight from Maraniss' web site:

"Q. How does the Obama you discovered while researching this book differ from the picture he’s painted himself in his books, and from the image his opponents have tried to project?

A. The Obama story ... like the Clinton story, or the Lombardi story, or the Clemente story ... was shrouded in mythology. In pursuing the truth, I had to push away two sorts of myths. First there were the myths about his family passed along to Obama that he then passed along in his book. These myths were for the most part benign, but painted an inaccurate picture. As just a minor instance, Obama was told that his stepgrandfather in Indonesia, his stepfather Lolo Soetoro’s father, died heroically fighting the Dutch. The truth I found is that he died falling off a stool while changing drapes in his living room. There was similar mythology about Obama’s Kenyan grandfather being imprisoned and tortured by the British during Mau Mau. The mythology of Obama’s opponents was often more malignant, and not only inaccurate but wildly off the mark. The notion that Obama is a Muslim or was shaped by Muslims is a complete canard, for example. My research found, for example, that in the rise of the Obamas in Kenya, it was evangelical Christian missionaries who were crucial every step of the way, and Muslims had nothing to do with it."

Personally I found it weird that a book from a Washington Post writer (*ack ptui aiieee liberal trash lamestream media!!*) would've been used for fuel against Obama.

In other words: there was no intentional deception; he was just relaying the family stories that were passed along.

How horribly evil! [:D]

Was gun control in '30s Germany even anything to do with the nazis rather the fact that that Germany had lost a war with the rest of the world a few years previously in the first place?

outhere69 -> RE: "Dreams Of My Father" a fabrication? (6/24/2012 1:44:36 PM)

Was that part of the Treaty of Versailles? Seems to be a few possibilities:

- The import and export of weapons is prohibited.
- Restrictions on the manufacture of machine guns (e.g. the Maxim machine gun) and rifles (e.g. Gewehr 98 rifles).

Politesub53 -> RE: "Dreams Of My Father" a fabrication? (6/24/2012 4:31:03 PM)

The gun control laws in Germany around 1930, were meant to contain groups like the Brown Shirts. The laws prohibiting jews to own guns came into place in 1938. By this time Hitler already controlled the army and no matter how many small arms were in private hands, they wouldnt have stopped the German Army.

Your interpretation/comprehension is seriously lacking.

I realise that you were probably very disappointed to learn that Obama was only relaying the history that he was given and there was no deliberate deception (and btw: if a girlfriend was an amalgamation of several different people well, that is a very common application of "creative license").
