I AM TOO GONNA EAT MY FRAKING BOO BERRY!!!

And yes, though the OP did not bother to actually cite any darn thing, not even from the Daily Mail!

I heart Michael Pollan, the dear idealist. Considering that my grandmother would eat the eggs from the insides of the chicken before the shells formed, really... we'd be eating a whole lot of stuff along the lines of headcheese (yay!) if we went with what our foremothers ate.

Fake blueberries abound in food products

Fake blueberries are usually plastic and can be found with other fake fruits in decorative arrangements or on bizarre hats.

Now, apparently, they can be found in food. A range of fake blueberries are in a number of retail food items that contain labels or photos suggesting real blueberries were used in the products, according to an investigation.

Sigh.

As if it's not hard enough to include fruits in your diet. Now you have to watch for fraudulent food.

The nonprofit Consumer Wellness Center reported Thursday that its investigation found "blueberries" that were nothing more than a concoction of sugar, corn syrup, starch, hydrogenated oil, artificial flavors and -- of course -- artificial food dye blue No. 2 and red No. 40. The offenders are well-known manufacturers such as Kellogg's, Betty Crocker and General Mills, and the fakes were found in bagels, cereals, breads and muffins. Some products contain real blueberries mixed with fakes. For example, the blueberry bagels sold at Target contain some real berries but the "blueberry bits" listed in the ingredients aren't real blueberries, according to Mike Adams, the author of the report.

Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats Blueberry Muffin variety has no blueberries but does have "blueberry flavored crunchies" made from the sugar-and-dye concoction mentioned above.

My personal favorite fraud is Total Blueberry Pomegranate cereal, from General Mills, which contains no blueberries and no pomegranates.

Aren't there laws against this type of thing?

However, Adams did find that Natures' Path Organic Optimum Blueberry-Cinnamon Breakfast Cereal contains -- drumroll -- blueberries and cinnamon! And both are really organic too.

To avoid fraudulent blueberries posing as real berries, look on ingredient lists for red No. 40, blue No. 2 or any artificial colors, Adams says.

Watch the "Blueberry Deception" investigation video here.

Yes, have you noticed that the ads say things like REAL fruit if the fruit is some kind of freeze dried whatever? I read labels all the time (try shopping for SALAD DRESSING when you've been told to bring some to a party! quite the eye opener!) and the food industry is indeed an industry.

I do not look for anything realistic in the Boo Berry cereal that I consume every few years. Makes a happy change over raisin bran crunch.

I don't always use bottled salad dressing, but when I do, I prefer Newman's.

Really? I think Newman's is really bland. We mix our own at home, but I do like Marzetti blue cheese!

Normally, I make my own dressing but now that I'm doing myfitnesspal, I'm experimenting with low fat salad dressings and find Newman's Lite Caesar and Lite Raspberry Walnut acceptable.

All of the other brands contained ingredients that I avoid.

K, I knew we were twins at heart.

OP, how about I slap you around for a while and show you what kind of man you really are, or aren't as the case may be.

<Eats her Special K cereal like most mornings>

The only label I look at on food is to see if it's low calorie, low fat and low in sodium. Other than that, I don't really care. I'm healthy and no real problems. I pretty much eat healthy but when Master takes me to the local Italian bakery for breakfast or lunch, the last thing I care about is how it's made and with what or any of the calories or fat or sodium. It's just darn good!

<thinks about going to get a Krispy Kreme donut later>

I'm running a little late to this show. The opening post has been modified and the OP went poof. Though I think I'd love to be up in the front rowing seating for this one. :) Buttered and Salted Popcorn.

I guess I missed the OP before it was edited. But if this is another just like his other thread, it doesn't matter anyway.

Yea, I'm totally lost here as well, but based on the replies, I didn't miss much, lol.

I love Count Chocula. It's not sold anywhere around me anymore, except at Halloween.

Hell, I keep getting told I'm supposed to begin lessening interest as I get older and I found that not to be the case, I guess I didn't get the mailer either... or the email.
