Lets see how many whine when states decide to opt out of the ACA, like the unions, Walmart & McDonald's.

States can only opt out of the Medicaid expansion and that only by turning down a big bucket of federal money. How likely is that?

They can opt out of Medicaid. They always could--if they give up the matching money. They still can.

Dumb move, so of course, conservatives love to kick that around. But no action.

All hat, no cattle.

Pawlenty was going to try to opt us out. The republicans and democrats in the rest of his government went around him.

I dont think Obama gets what he wants all the time.  But I dont yet see a tax increase on the middle class anywhere in this, so I am wondering what this nonsensical non-sequitur is all about.

SCOTUS also ruled that States can opt out of the expansion without losing any current funding (current Medicaid programs need to continue on for this). But, you're correct in that if States opt out of Medicaid completely, they lose the matching funds they currently get.

You can argue that just about anything affects commerce and that has been the bullshit justification for citing the Commerce Clause in a lot crap Congress has done so I am glad that the Supreme Court has made that distinction. Taxes are another matter. They must be to pay debts, provide for the common defense and the general welfare. "General welfare" is vague enough to allow a lot of bullshit but I think health care falls under that. I don't think "anything" can fall under that.

Sorry, Marc, but if we can be taxed for not buying insurance, we can be taxed for not doing something that improves our health. And, that is quite vague enough for any lawyer to link damn near anything to.

Federalist Paper #45 was very clear that the Federal Government was set up to deal with external things and State governments were to handle the internal things. Under that explanation, "General Welfare" is not personal welfare, the welfare of each and every individual Citizen individually.

The federal government isn`t imposing anything on anyone......this law was passed though congress through the democratic process and is the law of the land.

And the high court just ruled it Constitutional.

This IRS as the ogre bullshit is the weakest part of the con response and the most dishonest part, too.

We use the tax code to tweak and promote/discourage ALL KINDS of activity, business and otherwise and no one know calls that socialism.

The slippery slope argument has always been an inherently weak one......especially when one doesn`t have a better one.

I'm concerned that some states like Texas and Kansas may stubbornly refuse to expand Medicaid. Hopefully, the government will 100% subsidize private health insurance for those with incomes of only 133% FPL in states that don't expand. That still won't solve the problem of co-pays, deductibles, and yearly out of pocket maximums. People with income that low can barely pay for housing, utilities, and food. Fortunately, if they can find work elsewhere, they will at least have the option of moving to a better state.

IMO, I think Robert's wording of the majority opinion was sheer magic. It can't be done under the Commerce Clause, but it is constitutional as a "TAX". Now, Lindsey Graham said that if they had used the word tax in the Senate, they would not have gotten ten votes. Ruh Ro Rorge!

Let's see them make this pig swim now using the word tax. How can you tax someone for NOT buying something?

The ACA is nothing more than a tax directed straight at the middle class. The poor get it free, the rich can afford to pay the fines, so we get whacked, and the Dems who voted for it have to stand by their decision.

Gonna be an interesting November

p.s. He also basically said, you get what you pay for, or the government you elected.

Rare indeed is the leftist who sensed Roberts extraordinarily sharp knife as it subtly twisted and turned inside of his Obamacare ruling

Well it seems its time to look at it now from a different angle. I now pay about 6 thousand a year for insurance, so if I drop it, then pay 2500 to get in the govt insurance,, I figure I just got a 3500 dollar a year raise

Lots of hope and change. He managed to do what other Presidents failed to do.... Provide health care for a country while sitting back watching Republican heads explode.

When is Rush packing?
