Personally I think that the meaning is to find meaning for our own lives. In other words the purpose of life is to forge your own destiny at least that's what I've come to believe.

Its a question some great minds have struggled with, and unfortunately it seems that life is essentially meaningless if we look to any external source, such as nature.

It seems to me that if there is any meaning to life, it is endowed by the conscious beings out there that have sufficient intelligence to perceive the existential status of their own being.
