Blah. Editing my initial comment because it was a negative response to a negative idea. One thing does not justify the other. OP - the parallels are interesting, but you know how it goes; what works for me may not for you, yadda yadda.

People always long for the sunlit golden old days, without realizing what actually went on below the surface, which has been discussed already. All of these rules for being a good wife...well, most of them are just common sense, aren't they?
