Anaxagoras -> Failing "Mans best friend" (7/7/2012 7:16:16 AM)

The barbaric treatment of pitbulls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gqno29vSOc or if you can't view it on Youtube http://www.myspace.com/erichinton25/blog/518024420 - beware, the images are disturbing.

It seems society is failing dogs utterly, and no only when it comes to dog fighting etc. In my patch of the world if any dog causes even a slight injury it is put down in a pretty cold way http://dogsdeservejustice.wordpress.com/about/ regardless of the situation that caused it. I assume it is a similar situation in the UK, America etc. More needs to be done to help dogs at every level it seems...

I didn't click on teh links, but yeah, I hope there's a special place in hell for assholes who do these things to a poor animal. When I hear the occasional story about the owner getting mauled, I think "Good for the dog...payback's a bitch!"

I feel that way when hearing about cruelty too. In a way its worse when animals suffer because they suffer silently and of course never have any chance of remedy unless animal carers intervene, which then often leads to euthanasia for the unfortunate animals.

Earlier I was speaking with someone about the way in which dogs are treated when they injure people. I heard a story about how a young dog merely "scratched" a woman. It got infected and this neighbour reported the dog. The dog was put down despite two costly appeals in court because the daughter of the family that owned the dog loved it so much. Thats a pretty medieval dog control law. It would be interesting to know if its pretty much the same system in other parts of the world too or if its (hopefully) more humane.

Bearing witness to the callous mistreatment and outright abuse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Osn6LrqdRqI many animals face.

The reality discarded pets and abused animals face http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVirCMQaJQc – abused animals have the least likelihood of being re-homed due to trauma, scarring etc.

I won't click the links either, i've seen
to much of that sort of thing, It's
enough to make you ashamed to be
human. The owners deserve to be
put down.

I suppose the links are a downer so apologies but I posted them up because I feel people need to witness this sort of thing in order to make it more of an urgent political issue.

BTW the rather sad case of Lennox
quote:

A decision by Northern Ireland’s highest court to condemn a family pet to death has prompted furious protests by supporters around the world.

Lennox, a seven-year-old pitbull-type dog, is set to be destroyed after the Court of Appeal rejected a last-ditch legal bid to save his life.

The ruling comes despite a long and costly court battle which has made headlines and attracted interest from as far afield as Australia and the United States.

Some supporters have even written to Prime Minister David Cameron to call for him to intervene.

Lennox has been detained at a secret location since May 2010, when he was seized by Belfast City Council officials.

The dog was deemed to be a banned American-type pitbull terrier and assessed as a danger to the public.

He has been on death row for nearly two years, and two lower courts had already ruled he should be destroyed.

The case went to the Court of Appeal after lawyers for Lennox’s owner, Caroline Barnes, argued the dog had never attacked anyone and wasn’t dangerous.

On Tuesday three senior judges dismissed Ms Barnes' appeal.

Lord Justice Girvan, sitting with Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan and Lord Justice Higgins, set out how dog wardens who tried to examine and measure Lennox in May 2010 were told by a man it would “rip their head off”.

Nearly 130,000 people have signed a petition calling for him to be returned to his owners, while a Save Lennox website has been set up.

Last night support was piling in for Lennox from across the world….

Minutes after the court’s verdict was announced, Janne Thiebaud from Tasmania in Australia contacted the Belfast Telegraph to express her anger at the ruling….

“It is just so cruel because none of this should be happening. It has been proven Lennox is not a pitbull. People all over the world have offered to take him, but rather than do that and give him a life, they want to kill him.”
