I was so happy when the rain first started after days of 100+ heat. That's all it was at first. Just rain. Then the wind came. When I say wind I mean hurricane strength. With the damage it did, it had to be. It caused a tree trunk to break and the tree came down on my car and is also blocking the entire street. What's even crazier is, no severe thunderstorm warning was ever issued.

Straight line winds. The shear force is pretty tremendous. No one was hurt, I hope!

I'm pretty upset about my car since my insurance is liability only. My husband and I both have student loan money coming next month and it's probably going to take most if not all of it to buy another reliable vehicle. I'm just glad nobody was in my car when it happened and I hope nobody in town was hurt.

We had severe damage here in Baltimore from that storm. We had 80 mph winds and trees down everywhere, power lines knocked over, almost all of the city was without power at least 2 days, many others just got their power back today. I also heard there were a few buildings in the east side that collapsed. As I walk around I still see people cleaning up from the damage.

OMG it gets worse!!! Sir was out back with the dogs and heard a crash, then saw lights over by where my car is buried under the tree. We walked over there thinking the tree was being removed only to find out there are now two cars stuck in the tree!! Apparently someone didn't have very good night vision and thought the tree was just a branch in the road and they could go around it. The owners of the second vehicle called the police thinking they could get a settlement from the city since no barricades had been put up. They are now being questioned about possible drinking and an ambulance just showed up to check their minor injuries. Oh and earlier today, one of Sir's family members had their jeep catch on fire. That doesn't have anything to do with this but.....damn vehicles just seem to be getting destroyed everywhere.

Sorry about your car.

We had bad winds Friday.
Several trees were blown down
including one that fell into the street.
Our power was off for a few hours.
Mercifully, it's back on.

I had a huge tree fall on a car a couple of years ago. It does suck.

I have to admit that reading about someone else running in to it made me giggle though!

I spent a week in tears over the car of mine that got destroyed. It was a 2001 Taurus, with 30k on it, and I had been letting my son drive it. When he lost his job, and wasn't looking for another. I parked it and let the insurance lapse.

Ugh. Lessons learned the hard way are my specialty!

100 huh? You must live in the South. Last week in Georgia is got up to 106. And it wasn't pretty. Nor was my makeup. =P
And then we also got a storm sometime recently as well, but nothing heavy.

That really sucks about your car. But at least you weren't in it. How bad is the damage?

The city finally decided to show up and are now in the process of removing the tree. My back window is shattered. The rest of my car is still buried at this point. I'm sure it's totaled since an entire tree fell on it, not just a branch and the impact was hard enough to shatter the back window. I've got some pics but can't post them on here because they're too large. I don't understand why no severe thunderstorm warning was ever issued and as crazy as this whole thing is (two cars stuck in the same tree), I'm wondering where the news crews are.

That storm fucked EVERYONE up.

Here, where I live, the winds were close to 91mph. All of FW was without power for almost a week, down here, where I am, no power for almost three days, VanWert, which is just to the East of us...they are still without power. Almost all of this power outtage was caused by downed lines from uprooted trees.
At last count, in FW, they were stating that 42% had damage to their houses/cars from either trees or blowing debris.

To add insult, a week later, we had the same winds come blowing through again. Knocked out the power in FW that they had managed to get back on, with sporadic outtages here.

Nasty, nasty, storm.

My back window is broken out, the trunk is sticking up backwards, the front bumper is hanging down on one side, the frame appears to be mashed down onto at least one of the tires. I'll look again in the morning when it's light outside.

Because derechos are unpredictable and rare, especially at this time of year. They usually hit in the winter during blizzards. They were not aware it was a derecho until it hit. Meteorologists thought it was just a bad storm.

Sorry to hear about your car, though glad it was empty at the time. My car had an argument with a jag once. Front of my car, crushed with wheel axle sticking out through the bonnet. His? Minor dent in side...

People driving into it does sound daft, unless it was round a blind corner of course - to mistake it for a barrier set up by the government? Inclined to agree with drug addledness or concussion...

(incidentally you can resize pics in ms paint if you did want to post them)
