COMMITTEE ON WAYS AND MEANS
The Wrong Prescription:
Democrats’ Health Overhaul
Dangerously Expands IRS
Authority

IRS EXPANSION
Although it is impossible to know exactly how many new employees the IRS would have to hire
to enforce the individual mandate and other provisions of the Democrats’ health care bill, the
IRS’s own data, plus reasonable assumptions about costs and program responsibilities as
described below, suggest that the number of additional examiners, agents, and other
employees could reach 16,500.

First, assume that the IRS budget would grow by the $10 billion that CBO indicates could be
necessary. 10 While there might be some early-year start-up costs to prepare for the added
workload, most of the costs would accrue in the last six years of CBO’s ten-year budget window,
when the individual mandate and other provisions, which present the bulk of the new
enforcement responsibilities, take effect. Thus, for this analysis, assume that $1 billion total will
be spent by the IRS in the first four years to prepare for the mandate with the spending increasing
to $1.5 billion per year in each of the last six years. 11

Face it.. the news you want to so blatantly push into our faces on this thread is years old. The fact that your 'man' is too stupid to realize it makes it even more humorous.

Do you really think it takes 16,500 people to handle a few calculations for maybe 3 million tax payers?

It's an entry in a database telling the computer to validate another field on the form.

The updates to this database happen pretty much whenever regulations require but at a minimum there will be annual updates.

It's a regular business process, and the additional cost to implement is zero.

Or cutting bureaucracy [:D]

That your own figures corroborate the ones the source in the OP used is helpful to say the least

Hi dc

Tell me how you think average people currently view the IRS.

Do you think they have a good reputation?

How about when the new Obama health insurance mandate tax penalties start kicking in. How do you think people will feel about the IRS then?

tazzygirl -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 12:42:37 PM)

No darling.. allow me to point out what you so conveniently do not realize.. which is why your comments are showing your lack of understanding...

THAT was the Republican report.. as usual.. full of shit without any factual information. Made up numbers based upon guesses, assumptions and shit they pulled out of their asses.

But, in typical Sanity fashion, because it agrees with your inane sense of partisanship, you swallow that koolaid by the gallons and smile, revealing the red teeth that comes with speaking without any knowledge of the facts whatsoever.

Sanity -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 12:49:25 PM)

taz, darling... you posted that "the IRS’s own data, plus reasonable assumptions" point to similar figures

You are not now trying to backtrack out of that with these, your cowardly personal attacks. Are you?

When you run out of arguments, you retreat back under your troll bridge?

Is that it?

tazzygirl -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 12:50:54 PM)

No I did not.. I pointed out that that was the Republican report. Honestly, hon, get some glasses, or, get your eyes checked. You really need to understand what you are reading.

Sanity -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 12:55:18 PM)

Then where is your rebuttal of the House Ways And Means Committee report

Just because they have Rs by their names, doesnt mean that they arent in charge of the data, which they fully are. The House Ways And Means Committee is in a far better venue to know than either you or your highly partisan "fact check" blog is

SilverMark -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 1:02:56 PM)

Lord knows that the Republicans wouldn't inflate numbers to make an argument to fit their desired result!....Right!

What axe is it that Politifat would have to grind? Yet they agree with FactCheck in their conclusion....

SadistDave -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 1:09:36 PM)

It doesn't matter what anyone says or how much evidence there is. Libs don't even believe you when you have the words coming straight from their Dear Leaders mouth. Any bets on which one will be the first to say the following video is being taken out of context?

Whether or not the IRS will be Obummers Gestapo or not, we know by his own words that he wants one.

16,500 extra Treasury agents whose only purpose will be to fine and/or imprison citizens would definitely be a step in that direction.

People grumble, of course, and I think folks project a lot of their discontent with government/taxes in general onto the IRS. But I don't think anyone with a working brain confuses the agency with, dear God, the Gestapo.

To be honest, I'm surprised a public servant, even a Republican, would make such an inflammatory and irresponsible comparison.

tazzygirl -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 1:11:58 PM)

And yet even you dont know the law. How amazing is that!

SilverMark -> RE: The ‘New Gestapo’? (7/8/2012 1:22:00 PM)

Governor Romney is a strong supporter of the PATRIOT Act, and the expanded powers given to the government for homeland security purposes. He supports the use of Guantanamo Bay for holding detainees, supports military tribunals, and opposes habeas corpus rights for detainees and civilian trials for terrorists. He has also expressed support for extraordinary rendition.

At a campaign event in 2007, Governor Romney stated that he supported enhanced interrogation techniques in a "ticking time bomb" scenario, but that he was opposed to torture. He praised President Bush for the passage of the PATRIOT Act, for the pursuit of wiretapping calls made by possible terrorists, and for interrogating prisoners.

During the New Hampshire Debate, Governor Romney was asked about previous statements that he believed mosques should be wiretapped if a credible threat existed. He reiterated this stance, but noted a judge's approval would be required. He stated that while he hears people worry about encroachment on civil liberties, he believes that the most important civil liberty that government can provide is to keep it's citizens alive.

"At a 2009 policy speech, Governor Romney lamented the possibility that CIA interrogators would be investigated over possible violations. He stated that there were times when other countries helped us out by allowing us to have prisoners interrogated there. Investigations into those actions only weakens trust in the US and may lead to nations refusing these extraordinary renditions in the future.

As part of his 2012 campaign, Governor Romney issued a white paper on foreign policy. In that document, he outlined a vision of the world that had the US under constant assault from all sides, and noted that the military and other tools of the government needed to be adjust to accomodate those threats. He advocated for restructuring the DHS, for focusing on domestic radicalization, and for updating the authorization for the use of force to include new terrorist entities and new countries.

In 2012, Governor Romney stated in a debate that he would have signed the 2012 National Defese Authorization Act. That legislation gave the President the authorization to arrest and indefinitely detain US citizens who are suspected on being allied with al-Qaeda."

Yep, sure hate the fact that Obama is strong on Homeland Defense....but you support Romney?

People really, really hate the IRS, and thats only going to get worse with the new Obamacare tax penalties

As far as comparing them to the Gestapo goes, they have and employ all of the power of the United States government to take whatever they want, and what they want is more and more intrusive over time

Now they want to control our health care decisions, and use the IRS as a part of their effort to do so

Not good

Youre sure youre not posting about Obama

That sounds an awful lot like Obama, who SIGNED the Patriot Act, etc etc etc

And who is unaware that Obama can only boast of invading Pakistan to take Osama Bin Ladens head because of the intensive interrogations that you speak so ill of

Was taking that bloody head a good thing, or was it not?

I had forgotten about that.

Classic Obama, in a speech before a thunderously applauding throng of goose stepping aupporters:

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."
