yep rulers and or canes for the hands, I think caning was stopped on the hands because of the damage it could cause to the fingers and tendons. When I was at senior school we didnt have corporal punishment as such maybe a slap upside the head but blackboard rubbers used to get thrown across the room with amazing accuracy

Oh we still had rulers, and I was lucky enough to go a school that had a teacher who quite clearly hated children, someone had obviously forgot to mention the change in law to her...

The nuns LOVED me. The lay teachers hated me, because the nuns loved me...honestly, it was baffling.

Public school? While that stuff was banned in the state schools, they could still do it in the expensive schools for a long while after. (For all I know, they still can...)
