He was best known as the keyboard player with Deep Purple, as well as a leading creative force within the band, e.g. he composed their innovative "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" fusion of classical and rock.
I am stealing this from Kana, who posted it on the musical clarity thread.
The emotion that they put in to their music blows me away.
RIP
Hey, someone actually reads my posts! And even listens to the videos. I am A-Stunned and B-Ecstatic. Thx. I'm never sure if I waste my time posting there...:-)
Anaxagoras -> RE: John Lord RIP (7/18/2012 9:34:12 AM)
Here is pretty much the complete Concerto For Group And Orchestra performance with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from 1969 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od95KRjPat0 which Lord largely wrote. It is supposed to be the first such fusion of a rock band and a full orchestra at a concert. Not sure it completely works as rock and classical fusions are very difficult if not impossible to pull off well but its still a nice listen overall with some very nice passages. Apparently the score got lost!
BTW its a "d’oh" moment, after reading Delilya’s post I realised its “Jon” rather than “John”. Never noticed that before for some reason.
