First time I saw this I thought "what a totally fucking spectacular waste of (any) money...how the hell are animals going to figure this shit out?".

Second time I saw it (and that it was truly causing fewer animals to die, ergo...live)...I thought...."add 5% to my taxes to pay for this please....sign me up".

I like how the article puts it -- they quickly figure out crossing the nice grassy bridge beats the scary asphalt river.

Here in Wisconsin we have a lot of " DEER CROSSING " signs on our interstates. They never read the signs and get hit by cars and trucks crossing in the wrong areas.

Actually, there are...several are in Montana, and they are equally as spectacular and equally as confounding as to how animals figure it out but...MM said it best...."they figured out that crossing on the nice grass beats the scary asphalt".

Well, since the article gives the location, go check it out.

thta's evolution isn't it? the ones that didn't figure it out are no longer in the gene pool. But hey, here's a question, what do most animals prefer, being exposed on a big bridge or hidden away in an underpass?
we probably need both but who's going to pay for that?

You'll notice they aren't built where rabbits and deer cross. More like moose crossings--and hitting those moose is costly and dangerous.

Better than the idiot who petitioned the town to move the deer crossing sign because too many deer were crossing there and getting hurt.

We have something similar here in NSW australia,
not full grass bridges (but they would be great)
there are koala proof fences along the highways
in some wildlife areas and here and there, there
will be a big pole on either side of the road,
connected by a rope tunnel type thing that lets the
koalas and possums cross over the road.
