In upper middle class England, when a thirty something girl refers to her boyfriend as "the boy" it usually implies that she has him wrapped round her little finger, and sometimes hints at a D/s relationship in which she's in the shorts and he's in the panties.

I'm not sure. If hes gay, I think "boy" has a definite meaning. It could mean he's into ageplay.

Are you sure it wasn't spelled "boi"?

this is what I got when I googled it:
Boy - a term used to describe a bottom or submissive who relates to the Dominant in a parent/ child nature. A boy can be a natural male or a female who relates to the male gender. Some butch females prefer to use an'i' instead of the 'y' resulting in the term 'boi'.

Boy can be a term for any male submissive willing to submit to the authority of the Dominant. I do have to say that I think I hear the term used more in the leather community than the BDSM one.

As for boi, Greedy nailed it. The term originated in the lesbian community. I do actually have a bit of a laugh when males use it without knowing it's origin.

I've seen it used in all kind of senses. I seems more common in the gay community than the straight one. I've seen all the following apply with self-identified boys:

1. Essentially a non-TPE male submissive of any sort, contrasting "boy" with "slave". This is mostly about the level of control handed over. I've seen this one the most.

2. A man submissive to someone older than himself, possibly involving age-play.

3. A submissive man leaning towards a more affectionate, less formal, less protocol heavy D/s or M/s dynamic, whether TPE or not. The men I've seen who use it usually contrast this with "slave" in terms of the warmth or love involved in the relationship, rather than the amount of control handed over.

If in doubt, just ask the person using it!

I'm kind of wondering because of number three there. I see the term leather boy used frequently and those are more TPE/Protocol heavy dynamics. I wouldn't want to say whether I see it in the gay leather or het leather community. Just neat that you have seen it the other way around.

Thank you so much everyone. If the term boy was used in the following context - sub, boy, masochist and leather- might it be safe to assume that he is gay, or at least bi? Because judging from everyone's answers here that is what I got out of it.
