Lucylastic -> Judge rejects contraception suit filed by 7 states (7/19/2012 4:21:53 AM)

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Seven attorneys general trying to block the federal health care law's requirement for contraception coverage saw their lawsuit dismissed Tuesday by a federal judge who said they didn't have standing to file it.

U.S. District Court Judge Warren K. Urbom ruled that the states failed to prove they would suffer immediate harm once that part of the law is enacted. The Nebraska federal judge also noted that President Barack Obama's administration has agreed to work with religious groups to try to address their concerns.

The lawsuit was challenging a rule in the law that requires contraception coverage in health care plans - including for employees of church-affiliated hospitals, schools and outreach programs. The suit argued that the rule violated the rights of employers that object to the use of contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs.

The lawsuit was filed by Republican attorneys general from Nebraska, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas. Plaintiffs also included three Nebraska-based employers affiliated with the Catholic Church, a nun and a missionary.

What I find funny is that on the one hand you have Republicans bleating about the ACS that it is raising taxes and wasting money, then on the other you have the same republicans spending untold amounts traveling around the Country raising these lawsuits.....Don't think the Attorney's in place are doing the work for free

What did you expect from one group of morons pandering to another group of morons?

Republican leadership is about power. They fucked up big time by trying to demean the ACA as Obamacare, because now that label will stick for all eternity, and Obama will perpetually get the credit. All they can do now is try to kill parts of it to save face. But I think they're just digging a deeper hole.

What I find bizarre is that both parties want this thing because it makes tons of money for pharma/ama but try to pass off the facade of claiming/accusing it of being socialist...two packs of wolves attacking the sheep from all sides.

You couldnt be a republican and be for it because the upper GOP brass was screaming it was bad.... they had to wait for the SC outcome.

Now that we have vthat, more are stepping forward, at least in the medical field, and saying that is can work.

It will be like medicare.. eventually, everyone will be on board, behind it, and swearing we could never get along without it.

They don't want contraception to be easily available. They don't want abortion to be available at all. It's like they think we're all like Mark Foley and Larry Craig. (I guess that's one way to not need contraception)[8|]

I believe that the contraception thing is a non issue, used to decieve the religious morons who think they are doctors, for the purpose of getting votes that are nothing but political theater.
This bill is not single payer... it is just the same thing with the taxpayers footing the bill. If one wants medical equity in this country then get rid of for profit health care.
