My dad broke his feet. The surgery has happened. He is on bed rest for three months. Any suggestions for what to do in that time?

Thank you in advance, and I will forward them all to him. Yes, even the amusing ones. I am sure that he needs the smile.

Broke his feet? Poor man!!

Crocheting. Because it only involves hooks, which cannot be used for weapons as easily as knitting needles.

Fly tying. It looks fun on tv. Thread, bits of string and feathers, thinking like a fish.

OK, it's dumb as hell, but I swear it works.

Get him a WOW account. Play with him for a little while so he can get into it.

Before you know it, he'll be on Blizzard for several hours a day.

Umm. . . I don't wanna play WOW.

I DID think about suggesting Farmville.

read book on subjects he has always dreamed about (how to build a wooden ship) or books in general.

shuffle your ass down to the public library and get him dvds.

become expert in history or something else, again reading.

learn fly tying.

take up whittling

Write his memoirs for the grandkids, his reminisces.

Gather all the photographs in the house and write on the back who they are and the years and what relations they are for his great great great great grandchildren.

Record videos, narratives of his life.

draw up blueprints for his viking funeral.

Fuck until he can't even walk anymore...............uhhhhhhhh...nevermind that one.........

When my dad was permanently glued to bed during the last years of his life, he played solitaire...constantly..his favorite card game, he'd draw pictures of naked women, played guitar, come up with stupid little puzzles for us to solve, want to talk of philosophy based on Star Trek, read, yell at me and my sisters about stuff like stop vacuuming when his Soaps were on hehe, uumm...eerr...what else....sleep, a lot, drive us crazy with his funny whistling all day, come up with new inventions that he thought were kewl..but useless and play with the grandkids who all adored him. And played catch the stuffed rabbit with the dog until the dog refused to bring it back which was about after the 3rd time or my dad started calling the dog dumb....his way of saying he liked the dog.

Keep in mind that he cannot 'gather' anything. He is on bed rest.

Got any good deals on fly tying stuff?

dooooodette;  he should shuffle YOUR ass down to the library and get him dvds.   (and books on tape) they can order from other libraries (they got like quantum physics lectures, nearly anything) maybe language tapes.

has he a laptop?   do the family tree, goto www. ancestry . com and go for the package.

and you gather the photographs and letters and whatnot.  get him some albums so he can albumize them as well.

The genealolgy thing can get pricey, just saying, and will dump work on YOU.

Fly tying. Beautiful things, flies. I have lots of grey feathers, should you need them.

My ass is 800 miles away. If I was right there, I would be able to try things left and right without emailing him.

In my family, we have done that. My 'indian' ancestory is much more proveable that Ms. Warren's.

Someone else would have to do the gathering. But it is a good idea. Thanks.
