I leave for 2 weeks, put out plenty of food and I come back and the shit box is like entirely full!

WTF?

Gawdamned cats.

I leave the TV on for them, AC, 6 pack of Bud, you'd think they could at least learn how to use the freaking toilet, run the shower, sweep up...

Dude, you left only a six pack, and even worse still it was "Bud"? You're lucky they didn't spray their shit on the walls in disgust!

That is a damn good point.

I blame myself.

It's completely possible to train cats to use the toilet and don't believe their claims to the contrary, they just enjoy making you pick up their shit.

If you watch the video, they do in fact flush.

My cats are currently on a rampage because I bought generic Meow Mix, which is the same as buying generic hot dogs. And mind you we have tried feeding them nicer food, and they will not eat it.

Yesterday generic Meow Mix was fine BTW, tonight the entire time I'm cooking dinner one of the cats just keeps opening and slamming the cabinet door where their food is stored. The bowls been full all day, they yanked it off the saucer and keep fucking with me, and making pathetic eyes at me.

I thought I had finally won.

I thought for once I wouldn't have to make a special trip to the grocery store for the damn meow mix.

When I switched to a brand of cat food that did not contain byproducts, potential carcinogens and other crap, I mixed in a teaspoon or so of baby food to encourage them to eat it, which worked.

What cat food ingredients should I avoid?

Pioneers such as Ann Martin, with her book, "Foods Pets Die For," have raised new consumer awareness about the ingredients in commercial pet foods, including cat food. Although much more information can be found about choosing quality cat food for your cats in my article, "Tips for Choosing Cat Food," I'll synopsize the ingredients you should avoid here:

- BHT, BHA, and ethoxyquin

These are chemical preservatives which are very effective at preserving dry cat food, but are suspected to be potentially cancer-causing agents. In recent years, many pet food manufacturers have moved toward using more "natural" preservatives, such as Vitamins C and E.

- Meat By-Products

The AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officers) defines meat by-products as " The non-rendered, clean parts, other than meat, derived from slaughtered mammals. It includes, but is not limited to, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, livers, blood, bone, partially defatted low-temperature fatty tissue and stomachs and intestines freed of their contents. It does not include hair, horns, teeth and hooves." Besides the fact that you don't know what species of animal the "meat" comes from, by-products as a rule are considered an inferior form of the protein which cats need.

- Meat Meal, Meat By-Product Meal

"Meal" is generally produced by rendering, a process which raises a red flag to cat enthusiasts. I would definitely recommend avoiding cat foods containing these ingredients.

See also the FAQ on ingredients to look for in cat food. And for a more complete discussion of how to read cat food labels, check out Understanding Cat Food Labels.

Fantastic, that's the first I'vw heard of it! I know of folks who did the toilet training, which is brilliant if you have a bathroom with the proper setup.

Nicer is a subjective term. I suspect you mean nicer in the sense of healthier for your cat...unless of course you've taste tested both cat foods?

Cat food and cat poop smell amazingly similar. That's all Im saying.

tj444 -> RE: What the HELL is it with cats????? (7/22/2012 6:47:07 PM)

Didnt you have someone come in and clean out the cat box and refill the water and cat food? When i would go away i paid a pet sitter to come in every 2 days, even if i was gone for less than a week..

I cant imagine the horror your cats had to suffer thru for those 13 lonely, miserable days and nights.. [:(] I think i will report you to PETA!...
