Though I've known my desires for a long time and have had a little experience, I'm still very new to the terminology, resources, etc. and have never really talked to anyone about it before.

I was wondering if there is any collection of threads, websites, books, indexes of local gatherings, etc. that are good introductions for someone new to partaking in this lifestyle. Sure, I can search the web, but what is actually recommendable by people who know what they're doing?

I've read in other threads here about the influx of people due to the popularity of 50 Shades, and I think there may be two things happening. You have people who are curious about this lifestyle because they read about a stylized sliver of it for the first time, and you also have some other people starting to come out of the woodwork because it's now becoming more socially acceptable.

These sorts of resources seem like they'd be helpful as a sticky topic along side FAQs.

Well then welcome :)

When you say "this lifestyle" what would really help is if you were a bit more clear on what you are envisioning. There's no need for you to know any jargon. Frankly, all the jargon is worthless anyway. But what is it that you've been "desiring"? Is it some sort of kinky sex? Is it some form of kinky control that is not sex? Is it some form of relationship pattern? What's in your fantasies trying to come out?

*laughs* I suspect the older generation of everything has always had a whipping post for whatever newfangled things are going on. BDSM is no different. I agree with your assessment. I think the 50 shades book is just one of those manifestations. I ran into all this by running into online gorean roleplaying in a virtual world... a more unlikely start for a 24/7 TPE couple is hard to imagine *laughs*.

One thing people here are consistently given as advice is to Google "BDSM + your state/town" to find what's live and local to you.

Go to a local munch in your area and get to know your community. This can be done by doing just what DomMeinCT suggests

Fet Life is also very good for locating local groups.
