ORIGINAL: JeffBC Edge play is something which squicks other people out. Age play back in the day used to be consider edge play, now it's clearly not. I guess the question is things like knife play and needle play are becoming much more popular and accepted in large portions of the scene, but will always be "edgy" (and forget for a moment they are pointy objects). There will always be a level of skill and understanding of the tool and the human body for these to ever be anything approaching safe. I think taboo does play into it, the question is, should some things stay on the edge of our acceptance? quote:
ORIGINAL: NuevaVida Bingo. For me it's because so much damage to my sense of self was done in the past - so much so that I wanted to check out. And I've put so much rewarding effort into bringing my life to a polar opposite place from where I was, I have no desire to even play with going back to what was once very real for me. I think it would be like engaging in alcohol play with a recovering alcoholic. I also shy away from deep mental play, sometimes all on it's own it gets there with my partner, and thankfully when it is not doing positive things he stops. I'd rather be laughing, screaming and cursing while being savagely beaten, then people getting into my mind at this point. It does have a mind twisting sort of addiction though. Edge play overall can be kinda of vortex, seeking higher highs, lower lows, greater pains, always trying to get deeper and deeper. It's why I don't mind, and actually think it is a good idea that we go through cycles with it.
