if you let an event thousands of miles away affect your life.. what does that say about you?

We live in succession, in division, in parts, in particles. Meantime within man is the soul of the whole; the wise silence; the universal beauty, to which every part and particle is equally related, the eternal ONE. And this deep power in which we exist and whose beatitude is all accessible to us, is not only self-sufficing and perfect in every hour, but the act of seeing and the thing seen, the seer and the spectacle, the subject and the object, are one. We see the world piece by piece, as the sun, the moon, the animal, the tree; but the whole, of which these are shining parts, is the soul.

What are your thoughts on the connection between the film, and the attack in Colorado?

I wonder who all knew about the content of the film. I would be suspicious of all of them, in particular the sound guys and the person(s) who wrote in the camouflage scene. I would look for any direct or indirect connection between such people and the perpetrator. But then, I do not suffer from a lack of paranoia.

If I let those incidents keep me from seeing a movie then that idiot has won.

Pretty much my feeling.

To add: "When I hear the word 'culture', I reach for my revolver" - Nazi Poet Laureate Hanns Johst.

"When I hear the word 'gun', I reach for my culture" - Malcolm Muggeridge.

Guess which I agree with.

Right, right, I don't want to kick off another gun control debate here, and the Batman film is hardly high culture. But I still think there's some crucial principle involved in absolutely asserting one's right to watch films in public theatres.

There hasn't been a movie yet that warranted a four hour round trip to Fairbanks and back. I don't find seeing it to be a tribute, unless the makers of the film has set up a project to donate some of the profits to the families of the victims.

IMO it is wrong to set up an association of any kind between the murders in Colorado and the film. The only person or entity responsible was the shooter. If it had not been this film, it would have been something else. Other moviegoers watching the film is in no way disrespectful to the victims, or at the other extreme a tribute.

I wouldn't particularly view that as a tribute, either.

Well, you know Me, peon. It may not be a tribute, but it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Maybe only a good gesture?

Yes, I could go along with that.

As of an hour and fifteen minutes ago, "The Hollywood Reporter" is running a story that Warner Bros. is donating a substantial amount (figure not disclosed) to charities that have been supporting the victims.

Taken from the article:

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the studio has been in contact with Colorodo governor John Hickenlooper's office and will contribute to a fund identified by the governor on the website givingfirst.org, which is a program of Colorado's Community First Foundation. The fund distributes monies across several charities that will support victims of the July 20 killing spree that left at least 12 dead and dozens injured.

Lovely quote. Every human being is different in how they perceive the events in their life. My parents said, even from the age of 2-3 years old I use to cry hearing/watching trees be logged or about animals being killed. To this day, it doesn't take much to get an emotive response out of me.

And as far as the movie goes, I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie this week. I love the Batman movies, I love Christopher Nolan.

I'll be honest. Master and I went to see the movie and not because of the shooting. We both just figured we'd go see a movie today. I don't know about him, the thought of the shooting never once even crossed my mind. I guess it's just that I don't allow every single crisis in the world get to me. If I did I would be insane already. I also used to be very idealistic when I was young....save the animals, human rights for everyone, save the rainforest, and on and on. But as I got older that idealism turned into reality after you have a child and you realize that hey, your kid and your family comes waaaayyy above everything and everyone else.

I planned to see it before the incident.
I still plan on seeing it I'm just not that
enthusiastic about getting out in the heat
and going to see it.
Do you not go to Jodie Foster or Martin
Scorsese movies because of John Hinkley?
A deranged person did a deranged thing.

I prefer the darker Bale Batman movies
to the cartoonier ones. I also liked the
graphic novels they're based on.

I thought Heath Ledger was amazing
as the Joker. Scary as hell. He set
a bar with that performance.
I think Batman is a dark story in many
ways and was established as such from
the beginning. He's not wholesome and
pure like Superman. He's tortured and
has a dark side.
