It's good to see that there are some people in the dock finally.

I note that there are "further inquiries" to be made and completed . It would be a shame if the ultimate beneficiaries, and the people who authorised the payments and signed the cheques were to escape prosecution. How much longer will we have to wait before the Murdochs join Brooks, Coulson & Co in the dock?

Don't hold your breath.
That's all I can say about that possibility. It's quite a remote one...

Yeah right, whatever.

If only the police and our politicians had responded as quickly as they did when they were offered those lucrative contracts training up the Saudi and Syrian police forces how better to subjugate their people.

But you know as a nation collectively we're too soft. So much self-righteous indignation and anger when it comes to asylum seekers, benefit claimants and chavs, but when it comes to anyone in a suit with a bit of money we fall silent and start looking the other way.

Until that changes, nothing is going to change and we'll always been taken as a nation of mugs.

See, when you say stuff like this, Stella, it feels as if we live in the same country after all.

last I saw the DoJ investigation(s) were ongoing. Federal prosecutors like to get overwhelming evidence in these sorts of cases so it might be a while before charges are brought (though at least one charge under the FCPA seems certain from what has come out in England).

Yeah, I know I read the US had an investigation going on but I just hate thinkin' that the phone hacker bunch is thinkin' they got away with it and they are livin' it up.. I hope they go after Murdoch, especially, not just his slimey underlings..

Well, well. Brooks and others formally charged at last.

The one enduring memory I'll always have of Brooks is of those video images of Cameron and Blair doing the kissy-kissy thing on meeting with her. So heartwarming.

Is such kissing allowed between prisoners and their visitors, I wonder? I do hope so, should the sad day come when Brooks is banged up in Parkhurst. We Brits should find it in our harsh and cold souls to let true love shine through.

They can have phone sex, as you and Maggie are wont to do.

What? Ron, I think your fantasies are becoming a touch too divorced from reality.

Note how the article omits any mention of the Murdochs.

The reason is they have evidence on Brooks and company but not on the Murdochs. I think this latest charge, seperate from the ones people face regards "perverting the course of justice", arise from a notebook/computer belonging to the private detective Glen Mulcaire. He is said to have carried out the hacking.

My suspicion is someone is going to turn "Queens Evidence" and do some plea bargaining, if they havent done so already. It is well known in the UK that the NOTW case is just the tip of the iceberg, so this could run and run hitting much of the media.
