Gov. ROMNEY: Well, I'm not going to predict, you know, the economic future, but I can tell you that you don't raise taxes on people in the middle of a downturn like this, particularly one that's gone on for three and a half years. Circumstances in this country suggest people are still having hard times, jobs are not plentiful. What the president should do is say look, we're going to extend for at least a year the--well, I'd like to see it permanent, but at least a year--the current tax environment. This sequestration related to defense spending, in particular, has to be put off. Look, the American people ought to choose the course for the future. And if they want to raise taxes on business creators and cause a further slowdown, well, they can vote for President Obama. But if they want to see this economy come roaring back with good--with good jobs, they ought to vote for me, in my view. And we ought to give, whichever president is going to be elected, at least six months or a year to get those policies in place. So let's extend where we are now as opposed to looking at a cliff in January that would cause, well, real distress for the economy and perhaps lead to the kind of outcome you suggest.

So, since Obama had 6 months to a year to get his policies into place...

But let's go ahead and apply this standard to President Obama, who took office in the midst of the worst global economic catastrophe since the Great Depression. Hey, look, here's a new chart I put together.

Image didnt display.. see the link

Throughout the presidential campaign, Romney has said the clock should start in February 2009, Obama's first month in office. If that's fair -- if the president deserves the blame for every job lost on his 11th day in office -- it's true that under Obama, the economy is still in a deep hole and hasn't fully recovered from the losses of early 2009.

But look what happens when we start the clock, as Romney suggests, six months to a year after President Obama was sworn in. In fact, if we don't hold Obama's first year against him, the economy has added over 3.7 million jobs overall during his presidency, and over 4.2 million in the private sector.

That's not the count by my standard; that's the count by Romney's standard.

Seems Romney wants one standard for himself while applying a different one for Obama.

Where do you believe the policies, and therefore the fault or accolades, begin with an administration?

Usually, the first year a new president is in office they are still working through the former president's policies. The new president didn't even have an opportunity to have input on that year's budget or spending priorities.

So, yes, it does take 6-12 months for a new president's policies to start to fall into place and to succeed or fail.

By this measure, the few policies Obama actually got through our do-nothing Congress has been a success. There would have been far successes had Congress actually done their jobs and worked with the president rather than against him at every turn.

2010 had been about bringing jobs to the American people. Obama gave Congress a jobs bill and Beohner's Congress can't even vote on it. Instead, they waste time and tax payer dollars with bills they know are destined to die in the Senate.

I don't hold our poor economy against Obama. I put it on the shoulders of those truly responsible--Congress. They have done nothing to try to improve things economically except tout that taxes shouldn't be raised during a "downturn" and try to slash government spending where it is needed the most. Ironically, they are now hollering that if the defense budget is cut at the end of the year that hundreds, if not thousands of people will lose their jobs. Here, I thought government didn't create jobs (at least that's what all my conservative friends keep telling me).

It's quite unfair of you to notice these tiny contradictions, angel, when the greater problem is the infiltation of Islamists into the deepest reaches of our government [8|]

[8|] stop the lies! I didn't know politicians do that, and then wonder why we dislike them

I have this mental picture of Claude Rains expressing shock in finding out there is gambling going on at Rick's Cafe Americaine

He wants your vote! So he'll vote and speak in any manner or way you want to get your vote. But once he's elected, he'll totally forget you exist. Unless of course your net worth is eight digits long, and are donating to his re-election fund in the amount of six figures each year afterward.

Actually, I didn't notice that little inconsistency at first...I got it from Lawrence O'Donnell,
but after doing some checking on my own, I found he was right, as he usually is on these sort of matters.
