MissAsylum -> RE: Why are there no gay Muppets? (7/24/2012 7:00:08 PM)

While geared for adults, kids were/are a huge audience for the Muppets- so really, I don't think having any characters that were flamboyantly out of the closet (everything in kid shows are exaggerated) would have been appropriate. Just my opinion. They've already had Miss Piggy and Kermit be in a long standing relationship, so if that doesn't express their acceptance of "non-traditional" relationships, I don't know what would. Burt and Ernie also go without saying. If I had to take a guess though, I'd hedge my bets with Janice. I own "The Great Muppet Caper" VHS, and can remember her saying, "Look, Mother. It's my life. OK. So if I want to live on a beach and walk around naked..." Not that exhibitionism has anything to do with that (i honestly just found it hilarious). Janis was modeled after the confirmed bisexual Janis Joplin and rumored experimental Mick Jagger, so its possible Muppet Janis could have straddled the fence. quote:
ORIGINAL: LizDeluxe The Henson company announced that they are cutting all future ties with Chick-Fil-A due to the latter's recent stance against gay marriage. If the Henson company is so pro-LGBT why are there no gay Muppets? I'm not aware of any although I have always had my suspicions about Bert and Ernie. I say put your money where your mouth is, Henson folks.
