Non-gun owners should be taxed for not being in the possession of guns. These taxes should be used to cover the medical and rehabilitation costs of crime victims.

I suspect there is already sales tax on guns and ammo in most states and I would be surprised if revenue doesnt already cover that amount.

Like tax on booze, tobacco and petrol/gas one of the things governments dont like people mentioning is that they actualy account for a sizeable amount of the total revenue. Here in the UK revenue from tobbaco sales easily covers the cost of paying to treat the after effects but trying to get a straight answer is tricky Doran et al have studied it in Australia.

Its not the cost of paying for such tragic events (which is miniscule in nation state terms) its the human cost and the cost of overall gun related crime that has an impact. Stopping these mass-shootings will not have a huge impact on economies, clearing up areas of high endemic violence and its causes, ie street level drug dealing and use WOULD have a HUGE impact and save a very large numbers of lives.

Indeed. If you were to mandate safer cars or improved driver training you'd save more lives. If you just increase tax on car sales or use (license costs, fuel tax etc) then its just more cash in the coffers which will get spent on whatever.... (In the US its more or less Debt payments>Defense=Medicare/MedicAid=SocialSecurity>OtherWelfarestuff, In the UK its more like Welfare>Education>Health>therest. Ironically the US spends far more GDP on healthcare than the UK aready despite the UK having 'socialised healthcare for all')

Do you also recommend that pool owners be taxed for the possession of a pool and those taxes used for the medical and rehabilitation costs of water accidents and drowning?

I am thinking that the legal and justice system fees are actually more that the medical costs with regards to gun victims. Does anyone know?

I suspect that is because a USA person relatively often requires two seats in an airplane, whereas one seat usually is sufficient for a Brit.

A sensible suggestion for once! Some of that money should go for law enforcement too. Even if one has the 'right' to do something, one also has a responsibility to compensate society for the harm their 'right' does.

I suspect it's because the Corporate looks on human beings as a resource to be strip mined; health costs keep spiraling upward for no particular reason except Corporate greed.

And men should be taxed for the possession of penii. These taxes should be used to cover the medical and rehabilitation costs of rape victims.

While we're on the subject, women should be taxed for the possession of sexual capital. These taxes should be taken out in goods and not considered rape, nor qualify for use of the penis tax in any medical and rehabilitation costs therewith associated. Men who need to get laid should be given priority when collecting this tax, especially those that have medical issues regarding sex (e.g. HIV) and those that need sexual rehabilitation (e.g. rapists, sadists, sex killers, etc.).

How simple and fair the world is if you just trim away any excess logic in it...

We're a ways behind you but the UK food industry is trying to do to the Brits what the US one has done to America. . . and although not quite as effective its worth noting that the current minister of health used to work as an advertising consultant for the food industry and one of his first acts was to deregulate food safety laws.....and make sure the new agency was actualy chaired by the food industry. We still tend to use more sugar than high fructose corn strup (or glucose fructose syrup as its know in the UK) and most brits dont go for huge fizzy drinks...we prefer beer. But we're a lot fatter than we were in the 70's. We're not going to catch America on the obesity charts but we'll come in high on the rankings. Says the man on a strict diet....

Then the necessary tax is evident: people should be taxed. *I am a supergenius!*

No they shouldn't since it's mostly criminals who didn't buy their guns legally doing the shooting.

So, your theory is that law abiding citizens should be punished for the actions of criminals.

Therefore, we should tax all cell phone owners to pay for the medical and rehabilitation of the car accidents caused by cell phone use.

Yes the thumb tax is the answer.
