Gawd, I'm much easier going than most women here.

Me, all I ask is that a woman never be remotely overweight, not have any cellulite at all, and never have a schoolgirl strop while all the time strenuously (though completely implausibly) inviting me to believe that she's actually being righteously aggrieved about my *own* failings. What could be less demanding than that?

Mine are:

*Smelling weird (sour/old sweat/etc) although bo doesnt really bother me if they are bathing every day
*Bad breath
*To skinny/extreme body builder look (I'm a chubby chaser :P)
*bad genital hygiene
*Off-putting personality.

I find facial hair annoying, but its not an immediate no. If its trimmed that is...mountain man is a big hell no.

I like well trimmed beards if the guy looks good with it and I really like scruff when they don't shave for a day or so..always loved that look, especially with black hair and blue eyes.

I am 5'7" but always liked short guys as well as tall; I don't understand the hating on short.

Turnoffs: bad teeth, bad breath, high voice, tiny hands, no sense of humor and lack of good taste.

Also, if he has a clown costume or rabbits as pets I am so out of there.

The beard thing surprises me. My experience is that women pay more attention to me with the beard than without. This thread has taught me that women, it seems, are more shallow than men. It also reenforces my thought that finding a suitabe mate will be much like finding hay in a needle stack: next to impossible and insanely painful.

Why do you think women are more shallow than men??

Everyone is allowed to have their preferences, aren't they?

This thread asked what physical turn offs you have; I venture to say that most of us women really care more about compatibility of the mind, heart, spirit, values, etc. but don't be hypocritical, the first attraction is always physical.

Actually I wondered the same thing, why is it wrong on a thread where women were supposed to list physical turn-offs, that they answer the question? Maybe I'm just blind to it but I didn't really see any blatant evidence of shallowness, just answers to the question that was asked. If I counted correctly, 18 women responded to the question, that doesn't seem to me to be a representative number for the whole gender. Maybe I'm missing something and just can't see the shallowness, after all I did post on the thread.

I don't see it either. Perhaps he is just oversensitive since so many women did not like beards, and he has one. :)

Out of the women who did respond, many of them said their answers to the turn-offs were not complete deal breakers. It wasn't like the 18 women who did respond were only looking for men who had none of the physical attributes that they listed. I know for myself that I have been with men who had some of the things I listed as not being desirable to me. I wouldn't call that shallow at all, it seems pretty much the opposite if you are not attracted to something, and yet find something appealing in a man and choose to be with him outside of what you generally prefer.

The flip side of that - if you stick to your preferences - why is that "shallow" and not just part of every human being's makeup? Are we all supposed to just take anyone at anytime....whoever wanders by? We're not supposed to engage our brains in making a choice in a partner by choosing the things that appeal to us? It smells faintly like butthurt to me to accuse a group of people of being shallow because they have preferences; especially when the reference for the statement is a thread that is specifically asking for women to state their preferences, or non-preferences as the case might be.

It's like the trap of asking a man if he finds the supermodel at the next table pretty, he's damned if he answers truthfully, and he's lying if he doesn't. Or the age old question, "Does this make my butt look big?" So I guess the next time someone in a group asks a simple question of wondering what women's preferences are, we aren't supposed to answer, or we're supposed to bow out and say something meaningless instead. Fuck that. I don't think anyone who feels like participating on the thread should worry about what someone may think of their character because they chose to answer the question truthfully. Saying that an entire gender has a character deficit because an infinitesimal number of them answered a direct question of preference, does not compute into a meaningful answer.

Physical turn offs in a man are; obesity, laziness, a big mustache, bad breath, ugly genitals and someone who wears a t-shirt tucked into their pants.

Not always, actually. I've had several partnerships that began because of mental connections while I found the physical... lacking, shall we say. This thread has reminded me that women put even more emphasis on looks than men do. I have found, and probably will continue to find, that the best people fall outside of whatever idea of "normal" our society has constructed this week. I certainly find them much more interesting and enjoyable company than the so-called "average" person, whom I’m forced into contact with every day by my job. Quite frankly, I can’t decide if I despise or pity them. Their goals, dreams, ambitions, etc. have been beaten and compromised out of them. They are sedated, subdued, assimilated, and the only way they seem able to cope with it is to do the same to the next generation.

What I am saying is dont judge someone because they look different. You might miss out on some of the greatest people you will ever know.

Women preferring men who look and smell good has little to do with being shallow. It is ingrained in our DNA to look for men who take care of themselves because somewhere in our subconscious that tells us they will take care of us and our offspring as well. Regardless of our own ability to support and sunstain ourselves, this ingrained need goes all the way back to the days of cavemen and women. The strongest and healthiest of males "won" the females, whether with attraction or competition and they were the ones who won the priveledge of mating with females. It's almost universal across all speces, not just humans.

And I could be talking out my ass and just prefer decent looking guys cuz I'm shallow like that :P
