ORIGINAL: Musicmystery So we need guns so we can shoot the police? Arguably, that is one of the legitimate uses of a firearm, if and only if, the police are abusing their monopoly on violence. Like with any other monopoly, if it becomes detrimental to the population, you break that monopoly. It does, however, call for calmer heads than those I've seen in most of the gun control debates here for such a thing to be beneficial to the population. As a rule, police around the world have good intentions, but a variable porportion of bad apples. If they had incentive (no, guns aren't what I have in mind) to rid themselves of the bad apples, intstead of banding together in a collective defense of anyone in blue, we would see far fewer of these cases. Working on figuring a good- and viable- solution to that problem seems a better use of time than talking about shooting police or having guns on hand for that express purpose. IWYW, — Aswad.
