subspaceseven -> Willard praises Israel's healthcare (7/30/2012 9:05:46 AM)

So willard praised the health system in Israel............does he know they have a mandate that everyone must purchase insurance in Isreal???????

“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the G.D.P. in Israel? Eight percent,” he said. “You spend eight percent of G.D.P. on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation. We spend 18 percent of our G.D.P. on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4 percent, 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of G.D.P. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”

Israel spends less on health care because of a universal health system that requires everyone to have insurance. Every Israeli citizen has the obligation to purchase health care services through one of the country’s four HMOs since government officials approved the National Health Insurance Law in 1995.

Don't worry, he'll flip flop as soon as he gets back home.

Romney needs to read this. It will show him how a socialised health care plan can work.

Romney vowed to repeal Obamacare but I thought his own voting record suggested that he supports some form of socialised health care anyway?

I dont know about that Anax, but the Israeli system he is praising certainly has a lot of government checks and regulations making things happen. Maybe Mitts wants a bigger government, but only if he is elected.  [8D]

There's vastly more to that 8% figure than meets the eye.

They mandate PE (we stopped doing that decades ago), meaning, their people are healthier.

Ever seen a fat Israeli?

(Neither have I).

Healthier people need less health care, ergo....their vastly smaller %.

"Mitt Romney seems to be laboring under the impression that whatever he says in a foreign country will—like a weekend in Las Vegas—somehow stay in that foreign country.

Either that or he figures nobody back home is paying any attention."

Whiplash Mitt......that`s a good one.

tweakabelle -> RE: Willard praises Israel's healthcare (7/30/2012 9:52:54 PM)

It's no accident that Romney chose Israel as the location for his latest about face. Some Americans, mostly those on the Right, seem to under the impression that Israel can do no wrong, if their inane defence of Israeli policies and activities is anything to go by. They let the Israelis get away with murder literally and metaphorically.

So poor Mittens is in a tough spot - if he approves of the Israeli health system, he is implicitly criticising his own position on US healthcare, if he disapproves he's being anti-Semitic (by the insane standards used by the Zionist lobby, where any criticism of Israel is seen as de facto proof of anti-Semitism). So. poor Mittens dare not criticise anything Israeli lest his already disaster prone trip becomes a total debacle. Paradoxically enough if the US adopted the Israeli system, the savings might help pay for all the $, political capital and prestige squandered on its "ungrateful ally"(to quote ex US Defence Sec. Gates)?

Thus, it's no accident that Mittens humiliated himself by revealing his hypocrisy and double standards. He's far from alone in his humiliation. Isn't it time to end the constant craven abject postures of US leaders towards this rogue State?

So long as the voters approved.

The majority here never wanted Obamacare and today the majority wants it repealed. Obama is so arrogant he doesnt care about the will of the electorate though Romney is more humble and is willing to be more of a public servant than dictator

But...but..tazzy, didn't you know the only American people who count are those 69% of Republicans who still want the ACA repealed?

Personally if I was in the US I would favour some decent form of universal health care. However, in Ireland (with the HSE) and the UK (the NHS) things have been a fucking mess for decades and very expensive ones at that. These things are hard to get right, and not made any easier without broad political support, which Obama wasn't able to court effectively.

BTW Tazzy, I thought the public stance on Obamacare was more mixed than the poll you cite: http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/26/12419577-nbcwsj-poll-more-would-be-pleased-if-health-law-ruled-unconstitutional?lite

Obama campaigned on a promise to implement health care reform to make it more accessible to more Americans. He won the election and therefore has, by any measure, a mandate to implement that promise, given to him by the majority of America's voters at the last election.

It's called democracy.
