Around 10 years ago, her books were voted the third most popular that people wanted to read in the UK. Only Charles Dickens and Jane Austen were ahead of her.

I must confess that I haven't read any of her books but she was often said to be a very pleasant helpful person according to the people that lived near her in Dalkey (thats a village in South Dublin). Its nice to see that some don't let fame (and commercial/critical success) go to their heads.

My mother has all of her books, indeed one of the first things i ever bought for her was a Binchy book, very sad.
