Hey guys,

Shopping at WallyWorld the other night with my girl. She wears an eternity collar. Obvious to those who know, cute jewelry to those who dont. We get complimented by a girl who obviously knows what it is. No big deal, we thank her and move on. She follows us around the store with that facinated look you tend to get from those who think about it alot.

I just ignored her at the time. It still bothers me. I am not looking, and one girl is more than enough for me. I keep wondering if I could have handled it better. Would love to hear some ideas as I am sure something loke this will happen agaain,

Thanks for the help

Is saying 'Oi freak what are you following us around for' not good enough? I only slightly joke, I would ask what the person was up to, answer any questions, then say it is rude to follow someone around.

I would have figured no big deal. Ignored her and gotten on with my shopping so I could get the hell outta there.

If she looked good, I would have picked her up and taken her home on a blue light special.

Oh, wait, that's Kmart.

I would have chatted with her a minute, and informed her where and when the next munch is.

Ya know, seeing how you folks are the one wearing a BDSM symbol in plain sight (Which ya hafta know isn't generally accepted among the populace), dontcha think it's kinda backwards to complain when it gets attention?

I mean, its kinda like when I wear my "I only date crack whores" T-shirt-i bought it cuz it's funny and controversial,-I really can't bitch when people stare at me when I'm wearing it.

Rule of thumb-wear strange shit in public, don't freak when people stare. You created the situation by your choices.

I have to agree with Kana there - she was probably fascinated by seeing something in person that she may have only read about online. She may have been trying to get the nerve to ask questions, who knows - but with kink books popping up in grocery stores now, that kind of thing is to be expected.
People ask Menonnites about their culture and out-of-time dressing habits whenn they go into town. Heck, I get stares and questions over my non-relaxed hair everyday. If this is the first time someone has hovered aaround you for being different, then - well, consider yourself lucky. :p

I wish there were a thumbs up button for both Kana's answer and yours Tj, because you are both so right about this.

*side note* If you really want to have fun go into Home Depot wearing a tshirt that says "Whats your safe word" on it and see how many people start following you around

I wish I had a better answer for you. This is an area where I still suck.

It still creeps Me out a bit when people have heard of Me, even tough we've never met. I do get recognized every once in a while. It's kind of freaky when people walk up to Me and ask Me if I'm Lady Pact in the grocery store. The brand new person can spot Me at the munch and *know* who I am.

Kana's right, though. It's part of the deal when you decide to be out there. It may not always make you comfortable, but it's what you signed up for. That doesn't necessarily mean that you won't struggle with it. In a way, it kind of sucks. In others, you accept what comes with it.

That probably didn't help a damn bit. Sorry about that.

Handled what better? Nothing even happened near as I can tell. There was nothing to handle.

I have to wonder if your question, "Could I have handled it better?", was because you were both anxious about being spotted and even more because you were disappointed that you lacked the confidence to take control of the situation. Honestly? I would have stopped, told her not to be afraid and asked her what was on her mind or what I could help her with. Your avoidance shows weakness and vulnerability. Or at the very least insecurity. if she's looking to connect with a local, you missed the opportunity to help. If she was a stalker/predator, you fed into her with your fear of contact. But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

Fuck, so someone followed you around in Wal-Mart because you felt they recognized her collar? Personally, I don't blame you for being scared you were at Wal-Mart... but if you are doing something out of the ordinary and that may be hard at Wal-Mart, expect to receive stares, be followed, receive comments, etc.
