I'm gonna take a job with the DNC and then make a metric shit ton of noise because they won't let me say grace over my food in the cafeteria. That aught to go over like ... well, ... like a fart in church.

You go ahead and say grace to your food. Unfortunately, half hour lunch breaks dont last that long after you've had to wait to get your meal ready to eat (including saying grace). In most corporations, your supervisor and/or manager might have that 'talk' that your sermons are annoying others whom wish to eat their food in peace. If the mighty corporations can do it, so can the DNC (in case you decide to file action against them).

This is just another attack on Christianity by the progressive caucus.

Quoth the guy who wrote memorably of the Archbishop of Canterbury, a major Christian leader, in another thread: "The guy prays to an invisible friend, and I'm supposed to take what he says seriously?" I guess attacks on Christianity are just fine if they come from the right.

I hope the SA tells all you petition signers to fuck off and go read a Bible or something.

Well, that would sure be a "Christian" response.

Yeah shame on the Bi woman for taking a low paying job where the real pay-off is to help people. How the fuck do you remember to breath anyway?

GotSteel -> RE: Fired from Salvation Army after coming out as bisexual (8/2/2012 9:20:24 AM)

There are a lot of bad charities out there, in my opinion it's important to check into how an organization operates if you're thinking about giving them money.

The Salvation Army isn't one that I'm willing to give a cent to.

Attacks on Christianity are attacks on Christianity, regardless of what side they come from... What part of that don't you understand? You obviously missed my point that id this were a legitimate story, the woman would have sued the SA for discrimination.

What would YOU call this bullshit? The woman would rather write a story for a blog, than file a lawsuit, and you think it's legit?

Where's the lawsuit Skippy? If she was that desperate for work, you'd think she go for the easy money.

If she just wanted to help people, why the fuck did she need to join the SA? She could have easily volunteer at a local shelter, or food kitchen.

This story, like your argument, is stuffed full of bullshit.

kalikshama -> RE: Fired from Salvation Army after coming out as bisexual (8/2/2012 11:01:24 AM)

Asking a Christian organization to be tolerant is not an attack on Christianity but a reminder of Christ's teachings.

Volunteer work is all nice and rewarding and shit but it doesnt pay the rent, put gas in the car and feed the kids. Now, which argument is stuffed full of bullshit?

I love how everyone trying to defend her completely ignores the request for a legit source, or court case.[8|]

If she was that desperate to feed the kids, why did she have a conflict of interest? SHE could have kept her mouth shut, and kept her job. But SHE brought up her lifestyle, and was conflicted on signing the handbook. IOW She lied on her application, and decided she couldn't play by the SA's rules. Again, if she was just an innocent bisexual, why hasn't she filed a discrimination lawsuit? If she had a good chance of winning anywhere, it would be in Vermont.

Until we see a LEGIT source for this story, I will continue to call it bullshit.

I think, beneath even that, it's a sign of an anti-authoritarian impulse. For the righties, it's 'self-evident' that because of tradition, because of the venerable people involved (who are above such as you and I), certain institutions and attitudes just should not be questioned. Christianity, morals . . . these are all things that Joe Public shouldn't get above his station to challenge.

Oh, it's generally fine, so long as it happened a long time ago. Jesus himself 'forgot his place', of course. Jesus may have been many things, but he wasn't a conservative. He bucked established authority.

I think he was a bit off-message regarding the material conditions premise. Don't forget 'Render unto Caesar what is his'. But definitely more of an anarchist vibe about the man than most Christians today would want ruining the tone in their church services of a Sunday morning..

The part I don't understand is how someone who's plainly on the record for attacking the Archbishop of Canterbury--and by extension the rest of us praying folk--for a key part of our religion is now getting on his high horse about "attacks on Christianity." I can't decide if that's hypocrisy, gall, cluelessness--or, most likely, some combination of the three.

I did a search and am still clueless as to the context behind the Archbishop of Canterbury remark - please enlighten me.

Is this the same organisation that had a member say "All gays should die" ?............ Answer = yes, if you need any help.  [8|]
