Well it's all happening in the velodrome.
That's not the one with Debby Harry is it?

Nope. Haven't seen any of it and haven't the interest.

At home, we got rid of the Direct tv thing so the only thing that can be watched are DVDs and old VHS tapes. We are just too busy and have too much to do to spend the time sitting and watching tv, to make it worth the cost.

Here at work, while I have a great big flat screen tv on the wall in my office, with a bazillion channels available........it is nearly always off. Unless one of the guys wants to see what's going on with some sports something or other.

A dear friend sent me several links so that I could watch it online, but again..........just not interested enough to bother.

LaT.. if any of those links involve the equestrian jumping.. please forward to me?? *begbegbeg*

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 10:57:30 AM)

We did get to see sixty seconds of Zara Phillips! I'm surprised that the equestrian stuff isn't shown more in the UK.

The outcomes are not as relevant to me as the performances, so I don't mind seeing the results early. I like seeing sports that aren't baseball/football/hockey.

this. and Dr. Grey.. you have made me sad. My copy of VIdeodrome grew legs and left my collection YEARS ago...

myotherself -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 11:12:04 AM)

I will admit I watched the horsey stuff cos I knew team GB got silver, which is the best they've ever done, and Zara Phillips was one of the team. A pretty awesome performance, from my uneducated perspective [:D]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 11:34:01 AM)

She has always been a good rider, just like her mum! And you know they have the best horses!

GreedyTop -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 11:36:06 AM)

You WATCHED it, Bunny?

I must hurt you now.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 11:41:38 AM)

Oh foo, we all want to hurt the bunny![8D]

Winterapple -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 11:47:04 AM)

I haven't watched that much because I've been otherwise occupied. Of the stuff they show I
like diving, swimming and track and field.
Fencing and the equestrian stuff is what
I like most.

It's my understanding the summer Olympics
do much better in the ratings than the
winter Olympics in American households.
It's supposed this is because Americans
win far more medals at the summer games.
The ratings for the Olympics have been
going down in recent years probably
because network viewership is down
because people have other choices.

Winterapple -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 11:50:36 AM)

I like Zara, her dads a pretty good rider to.
She came by it on both sides.

calamitysandra -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 12:04:11 PM)

I watched, am watching, and are planning to watch quite a lot of it.

Not really for the sport, as it is, but for the happy memories.
Having the Olympics on tv in the background gives me a happy buzz, reminding me of time spend at my grandparents, who always watched major sporting events like the Olympics and a variety of world championships.
The same reason why I watch ski jumping on new years day.

Marc2b -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 1:12:19 PM)

I love watching the Olympics. I was without TV for nearly two years and the Olympics is the major reason I signed up for cable again.

Yeah, the time difference is a bitch but we live on a round planet... what'a ya going ta do?

I love the spectacle of the opening and closing ceremonies, watching the excitement on the athlete's faces... not to mention all the beautiful women from all over the world.

I love watching women's swimming, women's gymnastics, women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's beach volleyball, women's bicycling, women's track and field...

I love watching the intense concentration and emotion of the events, the (to coin a phrase) thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

I love waiting to see what each Olympics' scandal will be as there is always one (badminton? I gotta admit, I didn't see that one coming).

I'm glad they alternate the Summer and Winter Olympics now... four years in between was too long a wait.

One more thing: I had always thought that baseball and soccer were the most boring sports in the world... until I saw a water polo match.

igor2003 -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 1:52:51 PM)

I've been watching a lot of the Olympics, so I guess that makes me one of the "nobody's".  It's true that there are many aspects of some of the sports that "we" don't understand, but that is just another good reason to watch...so we can learn, and once learned the sport usually does become more interesting.  I do wish the commentators would do more to explain at least the finer points of some of the events.  I've had to look up a number of terminologies and definitions just to understand what they are talking about.

One of my favorite moments so far in these Olympics was Kristin Armstrong winning gold in the women's bicycle time trials just a few short weeks after crashing and breaking her collarbone during a race in Boise.

Even if most, or at least many, of the events are taped rather than live it still beats most of the other fare that is on TV these days.

Shotguns!
There were shotguns!!!
Brilliant.

DrG

A remarkable story that has gotten next to no coverage in the US is Kim Rhodes who won the women's skeet gold with a record tying 99 out of 100 hits. That makes it her fifth consecutive summer olympics in which she has won a medal.

Very true, Americans are good with guns aren't they?

I am seeing it because the lady I take care of watches. Only sport I am interested in is Baseball. Go Braves (yeah, yeah, I know).

Chuckles ... this one ... I get! [:)]

While I am not a "Go Braves" person ... the sentiment is what I perceive we in the US feel .. for the most part.

yeah, I am watching the olympics, a lot of people are.

Really sorry it's not in your time zone

My apologies to you Brits ... I am sure your Olympics is a Mega event ....

But it is getting low ratings ... in North America .... all due to the media presentation, and the LIVE competiton here ..
That live competition BTW, features events that are not part of the Olympics .. because they are most exciting on TV!

And TV presentation is the basis of all North American Sports. [:D]

I intend to watch the equestrian stuff online. I'm used to lousy coverage on tv, so I watch whatever is there.

But tax season is over! LOL So you can watch ... IF it is even on TV! [;)]

sexyred1 -> RE: Any one Watching the Summer Olympics? (8/2/2012 4:48:16 PM)

I never watch televised sports other than the Yankees World Series, but I am obsessed with the Olympics. It was huge for my family.

I admire the athletes so much and this year seems to have more eye candy than ever, so that is an added bonus!![;)]
