This is an interesting question to me because I myself kind of had a situation that might help to answer this.
Think about your submission for a second - you want to be respectful, you want to be polite, you want to be pleasing. (at least that's how I personally look at my personal submission.. it maybe different for you.)
But anyway, I work in a service related industry where I come in contact with a lot of customers. As such, I have always tried to be polite to the customer as that's just good business. But lately I find I'm striving to be more. So whether I'm on the phone or face to face with the person. I refer to all the men as Sir and refer to all the woman as Ma'am. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a second look and a pause from a man when I've done this.
For example, a few weeks ago a very nice looking older man came into the shop. (he was very put together... cleanly trimmed beard, very nice suit, etc.) I waited on him and he kept looking at me. A very direct look right into my eyes. Then I noticed that he scanned over my earrings (which just happened to be little dangling chained cuffs). When I smiled said, "Thank you and have a very nice day, Sir." He stopped then smiled and said "Thank you girl." Then he turned and left. I'll tell you I almost fell over, my knees were like jelly. My co-workers had no idea why I was all flushed.
I don't think you have to be in a "service industry" position for this to work though. I can see how it would work out in the general public, like if you were at the store or the library or the gym... wherever!
Not sure if this post helped at all. But your question got me thinking about that guy. If you stop looking and just embrace your submission, perhaps they'll just spot you!
