IMO- the guy is abit fringe. But- he is free to do bussiness in what ever language he chooses.

Who cares?  This is one hoaggie shop in one city. It means nothing. Either you want a sandwhich or you dont.

At least he comes out and states what he expects.

If one big company moves out of his serving area... that kind of biz sinks fast. I have felt- that when in ethnic shops that I got a larger serving if i tried to speak their language. I dont know if I actually did,...just a hunch.

I wont lose sleep over this.

Heh, you said hoagie!
Actually I like to see lively discussion.
Even if it's over a Philly cheesesteak.
"hoagies & grinders, hoagies & grinders"

pahunkboy -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/9/2006 8:24:36 PM)

LOL- yes- I dont know why we call sub sandwhiches "hoaggies" maybe they taste better when called a diff name.

:-)

RiotGirl -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/9/2006 9:38:44 PM)

once heard... like long time ago.. that SOME philly cheese steaks were made with cat meat

havent been able to stomach eating them since.. (even knowing they most likely arent made with cat)

Now cuban subs rock.  Those things are addictive

Is this guy any more fringe than  No Frills, a Nebraska grocery store chain who has made it madatory that store managers, butchers and pharmacists speak Spanish, in addition to English ?

Geno's is the " hoagie shop " you ar referring to, and it is one, if not the most well known Philly Cheesesteak joints in Philly  <Pat's is pretty well known too.> I grew up outside Philly and it has been around since the 60's. It's not just well known within the Philadelphia area.   I really don't think their business will suffer at all.
The place is actually alot of fun. You have to have you money in hand and ready to state your order as you approach the counter or you go to the back of the line. They have been doing this long before Seinfeld's Soup Nazi. You have to order your Cheesesteak " wit or witout" fried onions, and say it that way or you are looked on as an tourist or outsider. They lines are often out to the streets, particularly on a sporting event day/eve.

Now you have some useless information, but may make interesting conversation someday.

Geno's and Pat's are both recommended in a lot of tourist literature, and one reason why this otherwise meaningless story has gained a lot of attention is that people in the tourist industry are worried that it's going to piss off foreign visitors.

If you ever visit Philly, people, see Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Art Museum, maybe also the Rodin Museum.  If you miss Geno's or Pat's, you'll survive.

Remember the Burger Shack drive-in window guy in the movie Harold and Kumar go to White Castle?

You don't want any of our burgers today because me and Doogie put in our secret ingredient.... semen.... animal semen!

Perhaps the cat went into the philly & cheese, and the semen into the Burger Shack boiggas?

RiotGirl -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/9/2006 10:28:38 PM)

um ew?  Well hey.. least you dont have to worry bout catching an STD one supposes

FangsNfeet -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/9/2006 10:28:53 PM)

The Philly Chease Steak. It ranks number two of my all time favorites sandwiches. For me, number one is the Shrimp Po Boy.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/9/2006 11:55:05 PM)

My favorite sandwich is a goddamned pastrami special.  It's unhealthy as hell, but there's nothing like it.

Well, if it's good pastrami--otherwise it sucks...

NastyDaddy -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/10/2006 12:04:01 AM)

Let's hear it for a Rueben, with lots of kraut!

Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?

Lordandmaster -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/10/2006 1:31:46 AM)

Laugh.  Clever.  But a Reuben is supposed to be with Russian dressing, not mustard.

Aileen68 -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/10/2006 4:14:39 AM)

My first Philly cheesesteak was yummy.
I got a wiz witout.
MMMMMM....dripping with grease and wiz and ketchup.  Great for clogging arteries.
And it was from Geno's

My death bed wish is for a Geno's wiz wit......if I'm gonna go let me go from the shear joy of a Geno's

spectreandnectre -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/10/2006 6:27:31 AM)

i was raised about an hour and a half outside philly and can honestly say i never cared for them.  Recently i went back home for a period of time and tried one again, loved it.  A little odd how time changes things.

pahunkboy -> RE: Philly chease steaks! (6/10/2006 6:46:19 AM)

20,000 people just ran out for a philly chease steak. [and some for other sandwhiches]

Im trying to drop/maintain a better weight.

*writes down  "marketing successs"   :-)
