He actually made himself a sandwich today. I was astonished. Usually the most he does is toast if he wakes up at the crack of dawn.

But I rarely wear an apron. Unless I'm kneading dough and even then not always. I'd rather just change my tee shirt then deal with an apron.

The only apron in our house is for when I'm making soap.

Hey - I think you'd like Korean cooking, too. It has a lot of these kinds of values - it's all about balance. Flavor, heat, spice, color. It's really kind of cool in that way.

Just before I left Florida we discovered a great Pan Asian restaurant that had Korean food. I think I'm going to have to start a kimchi thread. I used to eat that in Okinawa all the time but I haven't learned to make it properly yet and it hasn't been as good here in the US.

Born with a white thumb from a long line of bakers and chefs. Can whip anything pretty tasty and healthy in 20-30 minutes. Mistress says I cook with TLC. She can stir when necessary.

One thing I'm finding is that canning seems to be a lost art among most people I know. I still can though, and this is canning season right here, right now.

I'm a trained chef-sous at a four star French Restaurant at 19, worked all over the place in a ton of establishments and locales.

And truth be told, she does most the cooking. Ain't that awful?

kalikshama -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/7/2012 11:20:04 AM)

I think that's the most horrible thing I've ever heard you say!

I read this as caning, lol.

Mom used to can. I never did, but was almost inspired to by two Barbara Kingsolver books: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life and Prodigal Summer.

I love to cook and so does my guy. Cooking together is the best, though. And there's oooh so many fun toys in the kitchen.

Thaz -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/8/2012 10:40:55 AM)

She _can_ cook and very well, but it has to be by the book.

I _love_ to cook and do so most days, especially as currently the Wench is on a krazy diet (well not really) and not eating.

But I do trash the kitchen and its her job to tidy up ;-)

LadyPact -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/8/2012 11:00:52 AM)

Believe it or not, I've actually taken over the cooking. For four years, any time clip was in the house, he did it. Since moving to Alaska, I've decided I don't like that arrangement anymore. I cook and clip does dishes. Baking, on the other hand, is clip's realm. I don't mess with it.

MP will grill. I can't remember the last time he actually cooked in the kitchen. (I think it was Mother's Day 2008.) Bad things happen when he goes out there. Pickle jars suddenly leap out of the refrigerator door and break on the floor. Containers of bread crumbs find their way to spilling their contents everywhere. It's just safer (and cleaner) for Me to do it, Myself. He orders a mean pizza though.

Pretty sure I will always wear the apron in some capacity.  I love to cook, it's one of my passions.  I would have a real problem being in a relationship where I did not have some outlet for that.

littlewonder -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/8/2012 1:37:11 PM)

I used to do canning with my aunts and my mom when I was young but no one in my family does it much anymore. One or two aunts still do but they are the ones I don't see very often. And I'm just too lazy these days to do it lol. It's a lot of work plus with it just being Master and I and me living in a small place, it's just not worth it for me.

ARIES83 -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/8/2012 6:47:52 PM)

I mix them up sometimes wot.

DesFIP -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/8/2012 7:56:18 PM)

I went to pull a jar of applesauce out of the cabinet. It appears to have been put up two years ago. And I distinctly remember only making half a dozen jars. So I rarely can.

I'd rather freeze spaghetti sauce.

kalikshama -> RE: Who wares the apron in your house? (8/9/2012 6:45:35 AM)

My Mom is bummed that she forgot to plant plum tomatoes this year. She uses these to make sauce to freeze. She did plant two or three other kinds and they are just starting to pop.
