Your twins are pretty resilient, believe it or not. Aside from voltages (current, actually, but that's another discussion) high enough to actually damage the skin, you've got to fairly tear into them (figuratively, not literally; although THAT would do it, too) to permanently damage them.
Basically, what you seem to want is to transpose the shock to an area INSIDE the cage, true? If you're comfortable wandering around a Lowes, Home Depot, Menard's, or the like, turn on the creative side of your brain and wander the aisles. I promise you you will find an item here or there that will sit your needs and allow you to pull it off. Oh, better purchase a spare cage, or two, just in case your mad-scientist experiment goes horribly wrong and you unintentionally destroy the one you have.
