Did I hear that guy correctly? We've lost our nationalism and jingoism? Well good! Patriotism (wanting the best for your country, cheering for your country's athletes) is good... nationalism (the false belief that your country is always right in all things) and jingoism (bullying nationalism) are bad.

Don't you have those backwards? Jingoism is "my country, however wrong it is", whereas nationalism is normally defined as an extreme form of patriotism.

I was taught that jingoism is an aggressive foreign policy (or advocacy of same) whereas nationalism is patriotism on steroids.

If I root for the American gals to beat the Canadian Gals in the soccer game (and maybe engage in a little good natured "gloating") ... I am patriotic.

If, after the U.S. wins I write three page nasty, expletive filled, screed about how this proves that the USA rocks and Canada sucks... I am nationalist.

If I think the U.S. should invade Canada, kill all their men, rape all of their women, and take all of their oil... I am Jingoistic.

Camerota and guest David Webb, a Tea Partier and host of a right-wing radio program on the SiriusXM satellite radio "Patriot" channel, took aim at Gabby Douglas. Apparently winning gold medals in both the individual and team all-around competitions didn't bring enough pride to the United States for Webb, who decried what he called "a soft anti-American feeling."

A few thoughts:

-- A key question, for which I don't have an answer, is whether individual gymnasts select their uniforms.

-- Webb seemed to be saying that the national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance are in decline. Don't we still play the anthem at ball games (and when an Olympian wins gold)? Are schoolkids not saying the pledge anymore?

-- We really do need an "Oh, dear God!" emoticon.

This a rant about the costumes US Olympians are wearing, and the lack of pride for the country, not an attack on Ms Douglas. (Whom I think is a very cool, charismatic young lady)

For once we're not seeing the "ugly Americans" over there, and IMO it's a good thing... Fox has it wrong on this one.

Hell, I can't get over people looking into such things as Lochte's parents home being in foreclosure or that Gabby Douglas's mother once filed bankruptcy!

We have reached a new low, tear down the hero as soon as they finish the act that makes them so?

It's all BS, and the uniforms are what they are, for the most part, they wear red white and blue, with the exception of the lady gymnasts, and they wear the same kind of outfits the other girls wear, and not all reflect the colors of the country they represent.

SO FUCKING WHAT?

Wait... the story I just watched on the link was about the the uniforms of the team in general and the lack of National colors. Gabby Douglass was mentioned in passing at best!!!

Aly had a uniform that hearkened back to Mary Lou Retton's, and so did one of the other girls... I liked how the gymnasts from several countries had fashionable uniforms instead of drab ones. Gabby certainly had the array of looks! I thought it was neat how she matched the backdrops with the magenta outfit!

The link was sorry attempt to switch focus off the Gabby Douglass hair mess that was being driven by the Black Community. ( It would seem, Gabby's pulled back, played down look didn't sit well with some African Americans... I guess they want her to blow it out and celebrate with the Crip Walk like Serena Williams)

As I said, Douglass was barely mentioned in the Fox Story, yet this Digital News Blog puts the Banner Head Line "Fox News goes after US gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas" and all of a sudden Fox is beating up on a 16 year old girl.

Give me a major break!!!
