Yes. You put lube insert , twist slide slowly up and down the ones I use have an "s" shape to them so when you turn them on themselves they create a different sensation. One of the subs I played with was really scared of them because she got stuff inserted in there in the ER and she said that it was night and day. A little discomfort then all pleasure and no pain. Really, this topic needs several gay men to contribute. Lance? Anyone? Sounding is VERY popular in certain circles, and as long as you follow the safety protocols--which let's admit it, are pretty extensive--it's "safe". The biggest issues come in when the bladder is entered, and that's not necessary for a good time.

Got the mail. Working on formulating the best answer. I am so not the person to give advice on the realm of female receivers, so I've got some emails out there, Myself for guidance. Sterilizing. Yes. Up until this point, I haven't been using a lot of stuff that isn't one time use. (Sterile needles, etc.) For cleaning, we are using the soaking in alcohol method. I do see an autoclave in the future. When Buzz was saying lots of lube, it's probably not what most people are thinking. Yes, it's a lot when compared to the size of the sounds, but frankly, I use more for strap on play. (If that isn't what you were saying, Buzz, feel free to suggest otherwise.)

Most folks here use the pressure cooker method for sterilizing.

as a nurse the devices used for sounds are made for cervical dilation. most are the curved or s shaped ones others like the rosebuds are long and have a small bud on the end. in males the sensations are like the after ejaculation waves with movement in or out it is a very intense experience. now the male penis uses muscle contractions to expel either urine or cum so when the sounds are introduced past the meatus it will be pulled down without any assistance. for males the common urethera is long enough that that except for the extra long sounds it wont reach the prostate. in females the urethra is only about a inch long and only has the sphincter muscles to stimulate and with the short length it is very easy to get a infection sterility is a must. i hope this helps littleclip

I'm curious to know how you know if you're close to the bladder in a female so that you don't go too far in. I mean, I would know but how would he know? Would there be some pressure or push that would indicate?

With a sounds I'm not exactly sure how to tell except that you don't actually push it in, it will glide in on it's own and you should be relatively safe as long as you don't apply pressure. With pressure you could puncture the bladder which of course is on the "Bad idea" side of the "Good idea, Bad idea" list ;) I can tell by how it feels when it is where it belongs. I can't really explain how <you> would tell though...it's a feeling thing. And in that scenario He would have to allow you the leeway to tell Him when to stop...and actually fucking stop when you said it. OMG that was lame rofl! Lucifyre

I had sounds done once. Sterilized them myself with alcohol, peroxide, then sterile water to rinse well. Surgical sterile lube was used. He used sterile alcohol wipes on me although the benzo something or other ones that hospitals use would be even better. I'm a germaphobe kind of and all this prep made even me comfortable with the scene. There was no pain at all, it was all sensation. A very unique sensation that is hard to describe. Like being fucked inside clit. It stimulated the underside of it. He was very gentle and didn't force anything. I was completely tied so I couldn't accidentally move and cause any damage. A big part of the thrill for me is in the headspace. I was completely exposed with labia attached to weighted clips to hold them open. My legs were spread in a harness.
