joether -> Paul Ryan's Voting Record (8/11/2012 11:59:34 AM)

I believe its a decent idea to talk about WHAT Mr. Ryan has done Done for the Nation in the last 13 years of elected office. As far as I can tell, this person has very little to any private sector experience (which should not count against a VP choice).

The link shows the date the bill was voted on, the bill's identification tag, the name of the bill, Pass/Fail in the House and how he voted. If you click on the name of the bill, it will explain the nature of the bill.

I guess he could have played it safe like a certain President we know and voted present.[8|]

Particularly when the current POTUS has NO private sector experience.

But,at this point anyway,a fair amount of President experience......lol

Wasnt it the Republicans that blasted then, Sen. Obama for not having Presidential experience? Yet four years later, not one Republican is saying that of Mr. Romney or Mr. Ryan? Funny how that B.S. works, doesnt it? Or that he didnt have business experience. Didnt he get handed a failed economy by a actual business man before him? And in under three years, turned an economy that was headed for a depression into a recession that makes positive gains nearly every day? At present the Dow Jones has nearly doubled itself from the 6500 mark in 2009.

He does, but it's weak. He was a private sector lawyer for a short while, and has significant nonprofit experience, which I suppose doesn't count as private sector experience.

Really none?

When did the government acquire Sidley Austin? How about the University of Chicago?

If the Republicans were yapping about Obama not having Presidential experience, they were incredibly stupid, as their candidate didn't have any, either.

Now, had the R's been yapping about Obama not having enough National political experience, there was that. Some people have already come out and blasted Ryan for not having much private sector experience, but turn a blind eye to their own candidates larger lack of experience in the private sector (I know you don't think it's a criteria, joether and these statements are not pointed at you, personally, but why would you even mention it, if you don't think it matters?)

Yeah as the walking definition of what NOT to do when becoming President.

Ryan's private sector experience
less than a year as a consultant to his family's business
he also worked part time for a couple of years as a personal trainer while working for right wing think tanks and politicians

Obama's private sector experience
one year at Busines International Corporation
11 years as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at the Uiversity of Chicago Law School
11 years (overlapping with the above) at Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland
Was a member of a bunch of boards as well.

I believe the last two Presidents with significant business experience were Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush.

Carter was a quite successful farmer which in my mind does qualify.

Musicmystery -> RE: Paul Ryan's Voting Record (8/11/2012 8:28:57 PM)

Several presidents have been successful lawyers. A law practice is not a business?

Not sure if any since Hoover have spent much time in private practice (besides Obama of course).

Let's face it, for the most part, we have developed a Political Class.

What did McCain do prior to the Senate?

Did Palin ever really work?

Kerry?

Nixon? Actually practiced law for a short time!

The Kennedys?

Gerald Ford?

Hell Reagan was an ACTOR for God's sake....do we count that as private sector experience towards being President?

Sanity -> RE: Paul Ryan's Voting Record (8/12/2012 2:32:39 PM)

You really should educate yourself on Reagans bio prior to pontificating on it Mark...

I believe you are mistaken

Reagan, for example, worked in the private sector for much of his life

True. But does acting count as "business experience," though?
