Wow. He's even dumber than I thought.

quote:

MITT ROMNEY: This November, America will make a choice about the direction we want to go as a country – and nowhere is that choice clearer than on the issue of Medicare.

President Obama’s healthcare law raided $716 billion from the Medicare trust fund. And he did that to finance his takeover of the healthcare system.

Now if that wasn’t bad enough, his healthcare law also put in place a board of 15 unelected bureaucrats and gave them the power to make additional cuts to Medicare without even having to get approval from Congress. This means they could deny elderly Americans the care they’ve worked for their entire lives – all because President Obama trusts bureaucrats more than he trusts seniors and their doctors.

So President Obama sees there's no need to pay for something twice, and so is cutting that duplicate expenditure--and Romney opposes that. Romney also opposes a commission to further examine and save. I thought these clowns were for LESS government spending?

quote:

The Romney-Ryan plan preserves and protects Medicare – and it guarantees the future of the program by forcing insurance companies to compete for business. Choice and competition will drive costs down and make quality better, resulting in more affordable, better care for our seniors.

Are you sure this guy ran a business? If so, what bullshit. "Force" businesses to compete for seniors' business? Why wouldn't they just WALK from it in favor of more profitable pursuits? Oh yeah--they would. Unless he's planning some socialist take-over. [8|]

So he opposes cutting costs, in favor of forcing businesses to compete to...cut costs.

And now it's the "Romney-Ryan Plan." So much for distancing himself!

It's exactly what I thought. He has no economic plan, so he hired himself one. That's....pathetic.

I wonder what the right would say if Obama made a statement about "forcing businesses"

Here in the UK they told us opening up the utility companies would lead to lower costs, it hasnt. All thats happened is prices have risen with companies being accussed of price fixing.

Wow. That's insane. Utilities are economically a "natural monopoly," meaning the economies of scale are so large even a single firm won't reach them. Making such a market a competitive one makes approaching economies of scale even more difficult, meaning costs will be higher.

I am a bit suspicious of "green energy" for that very reason. One company is planning to build an offshore wind farm near where I live. It will be 17 miles long and 6 miles wide. Most of the parts will be built in mainland Europe, the cost to the company is £2 billion. It isnt investment, as some of our more rabid posters like to point out, since they can claim cost backs via domestic bills over a period of time. This is from anyone who uses this particular company, not just those relatively few 400,000+ homes they hope to provide.

Basically we get few new jobs out of the manufacturing and construction, none of the profit and all of the tab. The other downside is that becaause the English Channel is one, if not the, busiest shipping lane in the world, the windfarm will be close to the shore and a blot on sea views. This will certainly bring down local house prices. All this to meet emmission targets from our right wing controlled coalition.

White House Sets Ground Rules for Local Interviews

The White House is doing something with its local TV interviews that it could not easily get away with in encounters with the White House press corps, which President Obama has been studiously ignoring: choosing the topic about which President Obama and the reporter will talk.

In interviews with three local TV stations Monday, two from states critical to Obama’s reelection effort, Obama held forth on the possibility of “sequestration” if he and Congress fail to reach a budget deal, allowing him to make his favorite political point that Republicans are willing to cause grievous harm to the economy and jobs in order to protect the rich from tax increases.

Obama Monday threw the White House press corps a bone by suddenly appearing in the briefing room for 22 minutes and taking questions from a total of four reporters. It was his first press conference at the White House – albeit in miniature – since March, and only his second of the year. Obama before Monday had taken exactly one substantive question from White House reporters since June.

Labor Department spends stimulus funds for ads during Olbermann, Maddow shows

Contract shows no new jobs were created

The Labor Department paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal stimulus funds to a public relations firm to run more than 100 commercials touting the Obama administration’s “green training” job efforts on two MSNBC cable shows, records show...

...David Williams, president of the nonprofit watchdog Taxpayers Protection Alliance, called the contract “questionable” because it created no jobs and because of the placement of the ads on shows viewed as friendly to the administration’s policies.

“Hiring a PR firm does not create jobs, and this was obviously meant for selling a particular political agenda,” Mr. Williams said. “The placement really reeks of a political ad rather than a job ad, and taxpayers see through this.

Going hungry in America: Distressing, humbling and scary

This kind of article usually doesnt make the press (so to speak) if the president has a D by his name

Fortunately, compassionate conservatives eliminated poverty in America.

From what I see on these boards "Compassionate Conservatives" is sort of an oxymoron [8|]
At the least it an endangered species, hell if you are seeking office as a "conservative" you are required,in order to receive support, to move so far right compassion isn't even in your rear view mirror.

The latest dismal unemployment numbers are out this morning. No hope and no change for those looking for a job.

Blame it all on Compassionate Conservatives, who made Obama give the stimulus money to his crony campaign bundler friends at companies like Solyndra

Blame it on republican cronyism that started wars so that they could hand out contracts to their business buddies, nearly everyone failing at our expense.
