I am a bit suspicious of "green energy" for that very reason. One company is planning to build an offshore wind farm near where I live. It will be 17 miles long and 6 miles wide. Most of the parts will be built in mainland Europe, the cost to the company is £2 billion. It isnt investment, as some of our more rabid posters like to point out, since they can claim cost backs via domestic bills over a period of time. This is from anyone who uses this particular company, not just those relatively few 400,000+ homes they hope to provide. Basically we get few new jobs out of the manufacturing and construction, none of the profit and all of the tab. The other downside is that becaause the English Channel is one, if not the, busiest shipping lane in the world, the windfarm will be close to the shore and a blot on sea views. This will certainly bring down local house prices. All this to meet emmission targets from our right wing controlled coalition.
