Romney clearly chose Ryan, and at this time, to reverse a downward trajectory in the polls. Well, it doesn't seem to have worked. Per this poll by Purple Strategies, Romney's got a slight lead in the swing states. However, the comments indicate (I have been looking for confirmation or disproof, with no luck) that Purple Strategies uses landline users only in its polling, which would bias the results GOP. While there has been a Ryan bounce, it's pretty small. Purple Strategies' contention is that Romney has a slight lead. If the polls are biased, Romney's dead in the water. The scary news for Romney is the Talking Points Memo electoral scoreboard. According to it, Obama has 34 votes more than he needs to win, and Romney needs to get 79 more votes than he currently has. There are three months left. Obama can continue to hammer on Bain and the tax returns, and now can attack the Ryan plan as well, as being hostile to Medicare and damaging to the middle class. Romney will hammer on the economy, and also on weird side issues if history is an indication. The only game changer I can see is if Ryan himself is a more effective campaigner than Romney.
