Why Maria, I thought he had impeccable table manners. Yes, maybe he chewed with his mouth open, but it all went down the hatch with no drips or chunks falling out.

Awww....Memory Lane, this reminds me of an adolescent, male 'possum my cat and I found while walking in a heavy snowstorm in NE PA. The poor, ill-equipped little bugger was huddling for warmth and dear life to the dead carcass of Grampa, an elder male 'possum that lived under my trailer, but bought the farm. I brought him indoors for two weeks and fattened him up while he made his home in my indoor woodpile (wood stove heat), until the worst of the winter seemed over. Cut him loose only to find him at my front door less than 10 days later, looking for respite one more time, as another heavy snowstorm hit. Put him up for another week or so till it truly cleared, then let him go. As far as I know I never came accros him again, but it's hard to tell as they all look alike. I miss him, he was such a good little tenant, and went far in curing my cabin fever, which is a common malady up there in the deep woods.

They're neat, so ugly they're cute. Have a low body temp so they don't get rabies. The do tend towards Nutritional Metabolic Bone Disease (Calcium, Phosphorous. Vit. A & D imbalances) if they don't get proper nutrition especially when young. Can be deadly. They can give a nasty bite with that big mouth, but if you lift them behind the front legs, they're necks are too short to reach around and bite you, so they can be handled/managed if wild or domesticated. They don't move very fast, as a rule, and are easy to catch.

The look in that fellows eyes while chomping on that strawberry.

Everyone loves strawberries.

ETA : He got a good grip on that berry. I didn't think their hands were that good.

I can't resist....

"OK Miss Shining, we are looking for a stray possum, last seen at the intersection of a big pine tree and some shrubs about a half mile down the road. He left after giving birth to his foal and abandoned her, leaving her to forage for her own leaves. On April twelfth, some sort of animal was seen crawling around in your backard, can you explain this, and can do tell us exactly what you did all day on April thirteenth ?"

"What the fuck are you talking about ? "

"Miss Shining, Shining Light is it ? I'll have to take that down and cite you for obscenity, do you happen to have any ID ?, you don't understand the seriousness of this, the opossum is guilty of child neglect, if you don't answer all my questions you are automatically guilty of conspiracy".

"I'm in my own fucking house, in fact GET OUT !"

"Well ma'am I can't do that now that you have two obscenity charges against you, now I really need to see that ID so you can sign these citations, or I will have to take you to jail and you will have to post bail"

"You have got to be kidding me"

They grab you and of course you pull back, now you are automatically guilty of resisting arrest. You get a lawyer for a grand down payment, he gets the two obscenity charges dropped but you have to go to jail for a month and pay a thousand dollar fine, the lawyer bill is twenty-five humdred total.

Then when you get out you are on probation and have to go for drug testing at your own expense, and they want the three hundred dollar one, yeah, where the mayor's brother in law is.

While serving your sentence you get pissed off at a guard, calling him a "turnkey" He sues you and when you get out you have no house anymore. Your shit is on the treelawn. You had two thousand dollars in your pocket in cash when you went to jail but they give you a check instead of your cash back. You don't even have busfare and your court date is in five minutes ten miles away, and if you don't get there, no more house, this is the FINAL hearing. The turnkey moves in and keeps whatever of your shit he wants.

Could happen. I mean this probably HAS happened, but only a few times among millions of people. It is very extreme but it could happen to you. No shit.

We used to tease my darling GrannyDoll that she "called" the possums every spring. Without fail I would get a phone call saying there was one in the house. She was so funny though. One day I get home from work and she tells me she has one trapped in the bedroom. Said the only thing was it scared her and she wet herself (she was 87 and mostly blind by then). Since she couldn't get into her room to get a pair of undies, she got a pair of mine. I died laughing when she hiked up her dress to show me, she had on my silky red lace bloomers.
