Jews Awarded Damages In California Hotel Case
quote:

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A jury here put the total price tag for what it held to be an anti-Semitic episode at the Hotel Shangri-La at about $1.6 million on Thursday. The award includes about $1.2 million in compensatory damages and more than $400,000 in punitive damages.

The compensatory award was disclosed in court late Wednesday after a week of deliberations in a case in which the proprietor, Tehmina Adaya, was accused of violating a California civil rights law by trying to evict a Jewish group in 2010. The punitive damages were awarded Thursday.

The trial, which had been under way in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County since late last month, raised rare claims of anti-Semitism in this beach city.

In 2010, Ms. Adaya, who is a Pakistani-born Muslim, ordered the closing of a poolside event sponsored by Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces, but she eventually allowed the group to stay after insisting that signs and literature identifying its purpose be removed.

Note to the proprietor.  Welcome to America.

$1.6M?!? Not that I'm saying she was in the right, but dayum, that sure seems to be a bit high for a penalty. Was the damages incurred really $1.6M?!?

erieangel -> RE: Things you can't do in America (8/17/2012 5:29:25 PM)

I know a guy, 20 years old, who was recently awarded an $8 million settlement against our county child social services office because he was sexually and physically abused while in foster care. The kid's lawyer is now going after the foster home and the case worker personally who did not protect him.

Real0ne -> RE: Things you can't do in America (8/17/2012 6:16:13 PM)

its about time we get some gubafia accountability.

Often these awards are not about the actual damages.. but more about sending out a clear message that this behavior will not be tolerated.

Unless you can coach a National Championship defense of course.......

Thaz -> RE: Things you can't do in America (8/17/2012 11:53:38 PM)

Intresting. I'd like to see the actual reasoning and facts (as far as they can be determined). In my personal view its fine not to be a fan of the IDF as oposed to being anti-jew which is a whole nother thing.

Real0ne -> RE: Things you can't do in America (8/18/2012 12:04:25 AM)

Hmmm.

Would you prefer an Anarchy? Not that I agree with all the rules you have in the US or all the ones we have in the Uk (I have spent some time in the offices of my elected representative persuding him to vote against one stupid peice of legislation or another). However I bumped into a Dutch girl the other day that lives in the UK because its so much more free than her homeland. This made me stop and think a bit. Then I had a long chat with a Russian whose favorite band got locked up recently for protesting the government.

I'm not saying we shouldnt protest and grief and push when OUR freedoms are eroded, we DAMN well should. However there are nations where you wouldnt be allowed to post a thread of the same type about your homeland.

Absolutely.

Sadly, since its inception the Govt of Israel and its cheerleaders have put a lot of effort into promoting the fanciful notion that any criticism of Israel is and can only be anti-Semitic, for obvious political purposes. Despite the patent stupidity and obvious self-interest (not to mention the racism) inherent in the claim, it seems that they have been successful in persuading some of the more gullible sections of US society, much to the disadvantage of the US's own interests.

Thankfully more and more of those duped are beginning to see through this nonsense.

you got your wires crossed.

the legislature cannot make ANY fuckgin law what so ever that does not violate my rights.

typical backwards assed aristocratic version of anarchy.

anarchy is not lack of gubafia, its lack of law.

gubafia is not law.

law comes from decisions of the court, BY JURY that judges both the LAW AND THE FACTS, not some asswipe in a fucking black robe.

The only thing needed is a body of case law created by those jurys each case individual based on INJURY IN EQUITY AND LAW not arbitrary rules and legislative fiat bullshit.

All statutes have no business being ANYTHING more than advisory.

Its so fucking easy to prove america is totally feudal it fucking ridiculous.

Ten Good Reasons Why US Citizens Should Expatriate

Although we have many readers from all over the world, we have a big following from the U.S.A. It is no surprise that many Americans have realised that their country has, sadly, been taken over. It is no longer ‘the land of the free’ – and many of the brave there are looking for a new home.

In fact, as we regularly point out, US citizens are the only people in the world who are legally required to file and pay taxes based on their country of citizenship, rather than where they live. The only legal escape method is to renounce US citizenship and acquire a second passport, which is what many US citizens are doing… whether via economic citizenship programs like St Kitts and Nevis, or by some of the more liberal citizenship by residence programs such as that offered by Uruguay and Paraguay.

Below is an excerpt from the FREE 29-page American Expatriation Guide, written by a former U.S. citizen who wants to remain anonymous, and reproduced here by kind permission of Casey Research. Read what he has to say – from a “been there, done that” perspective – and maybe take your ownfirst steps to move to greener pastures…

TEN GOOD REASONS WHY US CITIZENS SHOULD EXPATRIATE

1) Freedom from the global U.S. tax net.
2) Freedom from the death tax.
3) Freedom from the U.S. government’s War on Solvency.
4) Freedom from being treated like a “toxic citizen.”
5) Freedom from the paperwork prison.
6) Freedom to invest without tax distortions that encourage capital misallocation.
7) Freedom from being crushed by the fiat currency landslide.
8) Freedom from the accountability for how the U.S. government spends your money.
9) Freedom to radically increase your charitable giving.
10) Freedom from the risk of getting trapped.

oh yeh I would prefer anarchy

Expatriate ? Yes I ntend to, maybe next year or the year after if I live. If I die first I will not.

Didn't you know that Israel can do no wrong??

In some people's eyes anyway.

Ironically, I said that in front my sister in brother-in-law one day and went on to give my opinion that the US position that Israel can do no wrong is exactly what led to 9/11 and it started a huge argument with my ex-army brother-in-law. But he also believes that war is good for the economy.
