All the Republicans voted agaisn the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, but the grand majority of them took money in secret (or as secret as one can handle). The purpose of the ARRA was NOT to have the economy turn into a mega-boom time (i.e. the Dot Com era). It was to stop the nation from sliding into a depression. The bill actually allowed most industries to stop the downward spiral and some of them starting bouncing back. Rep. Ryan, if he's an actual economist knows this effect very well, but unfortunately he wears the 'Republican' shirt and so, can not admit the bill was a good idea at the time. Certainly he can not admit it now as the GOP Vice President canidate, without completely undermining his chances. He is trying to get elected, so rather than admit the facts, he'll push the lies as much as he can.

And he isnt the only Republicans in office at the time, that secretly took money while publically bashing the President and the ARRA.

Economists also know that government intervention (beyond a certain point that was passed long, long ago) skews markets that will either require continued intervention or will cause future market failures when returned back to "normal." Subsidies are forms of price controls, and have not been proven to make markets work for optimal efficiency.

What would happen to E-85 sales if the subsidies were removed?

What would happen to gasoline sales if Big Oil incentives were removed?

What would happen if all subsidies were removed, from all businesses?

Boy, I sure would like to see an across-the-board end to all subsidies for Businesses. End Government's ability to pick winners and losers. Let the market do that. That's pretty much the point of even having a market.

We should also stop subsidising red states, that complain about the Feds but that take Fed money anyway.

Yes?

then there is his 1 to 5 million dollar trust (one of the couple's largest assets) that he didnt tell people about... [8|]

"While being vetted by Mitt Romney's campaign, GOP vice presidential hopeful Rep. Paul Ryan amended two years of his financial disclosure statements to add an income-producing trust worth between $1 million and $5 million that he previously neglected to report."

Owner59 -> RE: Not even a week and Ryan admits lies. (8/17/2012 9:11:58 AM)

One of the ways Mitt`s pollsters are explaining away Ryan`s poor poll numbers is that he`s "relatively unknown".

Totally arguable, but let`s say that this is correct.....at least about the general public who don`t closely follow government.

What folks(who vote) are learning about the man, they are not liking.

He wants to faze out SS,Medicare and Medicaid and let folks try to navigate the complicated and danger filled world of medical choices and treatments....................with vouchers.[8|]

What are folks gonna do if they make the wrong choices and spend their vouchers mistakenly?

Are we going to let "the market" solve those folks dilemmas?

When folks start asking them these important and necessary questions......they had better do come up with more than their current "trust us" response.

Especially when this Ryan guy is looking shifty and dishonest as folks "get to know" him.

I hereby take back 25% of everything I have disagreed with you about.

On the disagreement side however. If they pumped some significant cash into infrastructure repair and modernization right now, I feel the jobs added would give the economy a serious kick in the ass.

While I feel this in my secret ganglion, thats where it stops, there are governments out there around the globe that have long term industrial and economic policies (which we never have had) and there ain't no 'market' as we idealize it, they have read Adam Smith and others in their entirety beyond the phrase 'the invisible hand' and are working day and night to hand us our ass, and they are selling us the baby wipes as well.

Well just yesterday he was blaming Obama for GM plant closing in his district, he seems to have forgotten that it actually closed while Bush was President...

and to paraphrase Bush White House response ""a sign that Detroit continues to adapt and evolve and address the change in consumer tastes and attitudes. ... They're adapting well and they'll make these changes and hopefully be able to pull themselves up out of what has been a rough several years."2007

Obama at a speech at the plant 2008......Today's news is a painful reminder not only of the challenges America faces in our global economy, but of George Bush's failed economic policies." He finished by pledging to help domestic automakers "with the funding they need to retool their factories and make fuel-efficient and alternative-fuel cars. And we'll invest in efforts to make sure that the cars of the future are made where they always have been -- in the United States."

Ryan also took millions to help his district when GM closed, so he says NO FED $$$$ to anyone, but takes it for himself.
