Bet he would have got more hits if he'd started this over in the Master's section and titled it "My Vagina."

Touche.

LadyPact -> RE: Fat women (8/19/2012 5:39:44 PM)

Here's the problem, though. Now that he told all of us the intent, people will be clicking just for the joke factor. Experiment fail.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Fat women (8/19/2012 5:40:52 PM)

My Vagina is now scrolling on the other side. Wonder how many hits he'll get now? My work here is done.

PeonForHer -> RE: Fat women (8/19/2012 5:43:18 PM)

OK, I'll make a serious point.

I was at the doctor's the other day and, as usual, had to wait over twenty minutes for my appointment. In the meantime, I picked up some godawful women's magazine. No idea what it was called, and don't care. Suffice to say that it was heavily glossy and probably cost a frigging fortune to the meatheads who actually wanted to pay to read it.

I have been seeing the same phenomenon for more than two decades. Articles about women's weight, next to . . . pictures of very, very thin - and stupidly young - women. To me, god knows why, but I always imagine them having unpleasant bowel complaints. They also look as though you could never bonk any of them because one of their limbs might accidentally snap.

Why do women buy this shit? There's no way on this God's earth that men would do the same. No man is going to keep paying to be reminded, over and over again, that he's so very much the 'wrong shape'. I don't get this. Are women bloody masochists in this respect? I notice that, at the end of each of these mags, is a section devoted to adverts. These are stuffed full of those placed by plastic surgeons. Perfect placing: make the reader feel like crap, then offer the solution, at a nice big 'n' chunky price, natch.

All the people do - the fashionistas, the models, the journalists and the photographers - all they ever do is steal inherent glamour from women, and make it something that they get to define, and that you have to pay for. They are vampires. They rip off happiness, and demand huge wedges of money just so that you can get a tiny, tiny bit of what's rightfully yours, back again.

It is because the photos aren't physically real. Example: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/yg9e8/iama_model_ama/c5v9pzq

You left out the recipes and lovely pix of gooey chocolate cake next to the article on dieting next to the skinny sooper-stars!

I know. But what does 'real' matter? Nobody makes wedges of money out of 'real' in the beauty business.

I used that word 'vampire' earlier deliberately. Recently, I read an article about female vampires in horror films. These - particularly *female* - vampires took off as a theme, so the writer was saying, precisely because they were unreal. Their preternaturalness - the fact that they were always slim, made-up, beautiful and never farted - and their soul-sucking qualities - were part and parcel of one another.

Come to think of it, I have a feeling that it was soon after reading that article that I started to think of models in women's mags as having horrible bowel complaints. As though the insides of them were decayed and rotten. Hmmm.

How many times has anyone seen a supermodel being interviewed? I never have. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell - never. Quite wise, really, on the part of their agents. Those women might be in danger of seeming ordinary, in interviews. That would never do.
