I'm confused as to the question. Dont we all know that reporting an offence and the aftermath can be 10 times worse than the original crime. Probably why most of us do nothing.

frazzle.. the article was (sadly) US centric. I don't know how the process works anywhere else in the world, but if you read the article, you will see that (at least here, in some parts of teh US) people are being SPECIFICALLY trained to do the forensics on rape cases.

Many people who are raped decide to just try to erase it by showering, etc. Those who don't are not always (or often) prepared for the clinical aspects of what they will face in the search for prosecution.

This article is meant to open some eyes, in the event of...

I'd have much rather had a person who has had soem training to address a rape, SPECIFICALLY, than to deal with an intern who treats it as just another routine, and annoying GYN exam.

I've heard from people who work on helplines that sometimes the women actually get the wrong info from cops and get told to calm down and shower...

thanks for clarifying.
in the uk sex crimes are handed over to specialist units and officers. examinations are done by trained staff.
it doesnt overly improve things as the courts, whatever they try to claim, still seem to treat the victim as being in the wrong. we have to prove we didnt ask for it !!!!

I think that happens here also. I never tried to prosecute my rapists (I had more... efficient.. ways), so I never had to deal with the courts.

Nonetheless... I still think the article is valuable. Had these forensic folks been in place here 20-30 yrs ago, it would have helped me not to opt for the more drastic measures.

Great thread, thank you for this......i know some close people of mine who have been assaulted like this and were they aware about this, maybe their rapist would have been in fucking jail by now, getting raped themselves.

Although, not sure if it would be the same procedure here (Quebec). I'll have to check.
