Re the rise in snark. Of course there's more of it...but equally true, there's a whole lot more fakes, frauds and fishers posting on the boards nowadays than back then. In the old days (And I mean waaaay back days, when most of the fakes were still from the good ol USA, not Nigeria), the board was pretty tight, most of the frauds stayed on the other side.
As the honesty of the posters dropped, snark rose.
A pretty straightforward response of increasing cynicism in the face of damaged ideals. Kinda the American story of the last decade or so encapsulated in a microcosmic environ
