I had to laugh out loud because it's ridiculous. I feel sorry for the young woman being denied her diploma over the word "hell". Was it an uber conservative religious school?

Are you referring to the student or the administration Stella? I can certainly understand the slip simply being made in the heat of the moment, in what must have been a very emotionally charged situation.

Does the student receive the diploma for the academic work done or for the graduation speech?

I suspect she's talking about the administration.
Really, this is a case of one little pathetic tiny person who has a position which gives them a smidgen of power...and the ass is abusing it to the hilt.
I mean who gave this cat the authority to make moral judgements/set precedent for an entire district?

Yeah... this is truly stupid administrative power taking their last attempt at lording it over someone under their thumb. Very similar to last year when a young man was denied his diploma even though he graduated because his FAMILY was too loud when he walked up on stage.

It had to be a hurtful moment in their lives they will remember.. BUT... I have to say I don't have a clue as to the location of ANY of my paper degrees. I missplaced my hs diploma LONG ago. And the college ones are in some manilla folder somewhere in my garage, I think. Or they may have hit the trash long ago in one of my many purges of stuff over the years. Paper is paper. I generally don't give a rip about them and have never used them for a thing. I just like learning.

Do employers ask to see a HS diploma now?
